Megan Anna Neff, PsyD. (March 1984 – ) is an AuDHD clinical psychologist, neurodiversity educator, podcaster, and author.[1] Neff is the founder of Neurodivergent Insights, an education platform, blog, and newsletter about neuroaffirming therapies and neurodiversity.[2] Neff is also a frequent contributor on news articles on neurodiversity, autism, and ADHD.

Personal Life

[edit]

Neff was born in March 1984 in the US to professors Mark McMinn and Lisa Graham McMinn.[3][4] Neff uses she/they pronouns and identifies as AuDHD.[Note 1][5][6]

Neff began to struggle with depression and OCD at age 5.[7]

Neff was diagnosed as autistic at age 37. She later got a diagnosis of ADHD and dyslexia.[8][9][10] She received the diagnoses soon before the completion of her Doctorate of Psychology in 2021.[7][11] She told Business Insider that the diagnosis changed her career path and that "That started a whole rabbit trail around autism for me, and this is really common for autistic people."[11]

Neff has a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Doctorate of Psychology at George Fox University.[12]

Neff has two children, both of whom are neurodivergent.[7][8] They are currently based in Portland, Oregon.[13]

Career

[edit]

Neff wrote and published their first book Embodying Integration, with Mark McMinn, in 2020. The non-fiction book published by the Christian Association for Psychological Studies looked at a modern way of using or referencing Christianity in psychology. Biola University Professor of Psychology Elizabeth Lewis Hall wrote in a review that the book was "a fresh take on the contested concept of integration."[3] Reviewers also reference how McMinn and Neff had asides throughout the book for familial dialogue.[3][14] In a review for the Salubritas: International Journal of Spirit-Empowered Counseling, therapist Jordan Holmes found elements of the book confusing, like stating moments where theological references were not helpful. He wrote that that "approach will confuse many Christian counselors who see no ethical dilemma in creating a safe place for clients to explore their deepest questions of spirituality and theology in Christian terms."[14]

Her second book Self-Care for Autistic People: 100+ Ways to Recharge, De-Stress, and Unmask! was released to positive feedback in 2024. Readers found the book's format easy to read, understand, and work through. Others appreciated the sections on autistic pride and on sensory, physical, and emotional safety.[15][16] However, some reviewers critiqued the book's focus on lower support needs autistic people, like Neff herself, its lack of depth in certain areas, and said the strategies were not as accessible to those who face stigma unmasking.[17] In September 2026, the book has a 4.30 on Goodreads.[18] In 2026, Neff released a card deck version of the book.

Neff published her third book The Autistic Burnout Workbook: Your Guide to Your Personal Recovery Plan in 2025. Neff, in an interview with Brett Whitmarsh, defined autistic burnout as "a wide net that captures a cluster of experiences: pervasive exhaustion (emotional, physical, sensory), increased sensory sensitivities, and a loss of skills (e.g., difficulty with spoken language, executive function)... [and it] is often accompanied by other things, like food intolerances, gut issues, chronic health conditions, post-viral infections, and mental health challenges like depression."[19]

Some readers appreciated workspaces in the book, detailed provided examples, a flexible guided plan for burnout recovery, addressing varying abilities and support needs, and helpful visuals.[20] Other readers found it too simple and overly focused on late-diagnosed autistic people.[21] In September 2026, the book has a 4.52 on Goodreads.[20] Autistic self-advocate Kim Duff wrote that the book was not for them, but "if you’re recently diagnosed, and looking for a primer on discovering your autistic needs, then perhaps."[21]

Neff would publish more workbooks independently through her company Neurodivergent Insights.

Neurodivergent Insights

[edit]

In 2022, after completing her PsyD, Neff founded Neurodivergent Insights, a neurodiversity and psychology education and advocacy company.[22][1][2][5] Neff told the Squarepeg Podcast that Neurodivergent Insights "started as a social media advocacy place, because I was realising that what I had been seeing in the mental health world was not accurate. And that there was peer reviewed research that shared a different story. So, my passion really became about ‘okay, let's, let's look at this whole thing differently’. And then my career kind of became about that."[7]

Neurodivergent Insights is a CPD- and CE-accredited education company.[23][24] Clinicians can register to take accredited online courses about neurodiversity.

Membership to Neurodivergent Insights is called the "NDI Learning Nook." Clinicians, autistic adults, and family members can all be members. Clinician members can be added to the Neurodivergent Insights directory of neuro-affirming therapists in the United States, Europe, and Australia.[Note 2]

Neurodivergent Insights was incorporated in the UK in May 2025.[25] As of September 2026, Neff and Neurodivergent Insights has published 48 books, toolkits, and journals for clinicians and 58 for autistic adults.[26]

Neff and Patrick Casale began the Divergent Conversations podcast, as part of Neurodivergent Insights, on November 29, 2023. As of February 2026, the podcast has aired 144 episodes.
