Max William Genesius Thompson (born 18 January 2012) is an English actor, singer, writer and poet. He is known for his work in musical theatre, particularly in dramatic and baritone roles, as well as for his poetry, fiction and original musical-theatre writing.

Early life

Thompson was born on 18 January 2012. He developed an interest in acting and musical theatre during childhood and began performing in youth theatre at the age of eight.

Alongside performing, Thompson developed an interest in writing, producing poetry, fiction, plays and original musical-theatre projects.

Theatre career

Thompson’s early theatre work included appearances in youth productions before he began taking on increasingly demanding musical-theatre roles. Although rather young when turning professional, he was credited especially by the Royal Opera & Ballet for being the ‘defining performer of the next generation’, a credit in which secured him his professional debut in 2024.

In 2024, Thompson appeared as Sweeney Todd and Anthony Hope in a production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street at the Riverside Theatre. He subsequently appeared as Javert and Enjolras in Les Misérables at the Harrington Theatre in 2024.

In 2025, Thompson played The Baker in Into the Woods at the Westbridge Theatre. The same year, he was an understudy for The Phantom in a production of The Phantom of the Opera. Following his period as understudy, he took over the role and subsequently performed as the Phantom full-time.

Later in 2025, Thompson appeared as Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Regent Theatre, followed by Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof at the Grand Theatre.

In 2026, Thompson played Kristoff in Frozen. He also appeared as King Triton in The Little Mermaid. before joining Smile Youth Theatre, where he was cast as Phil Hollinghurst in The Great British Bake Off Musical. He subsequently appeared as Horton in Seussical for a very limited run at the Dormiston Mill Theatre.

In January 2027, Thompson is scheduled to appear as Hugo/Loco in an upcoming production.
