Matt DelPiano is an American talent manager and film producer. He spent 26 years as an agent at Creative Artists Agency (CAA) before leaving in 2019 to become a partner at Cavalry Media, where he launched and served as president of its management division until 2023.[1][2]
Career
[edit]Creative Artists Agency
[edit]DelPiano spent 26 years at CAA, where his clients included Alec Baldwin, Mariska Hargitay, Al Pacino, Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Sinise, Jennifer Lopez, Gabrielle Union, James Caan, Martha Raddatz, Andrea Mitchell and Tucker Carlson.[1] In 2018, The Wall Street Journal described him as the agent for Baldwin and Megyn Kelly.[3] Kelly, whom DelPiano represented, moved from Fox News to NBC News in 2017 on a three-year deal reported at $69 million.[3][4]
Thai cave rescue life rights
[edit]In 2018, DelPiano traveled to Thailand to pursue the life rights of the 12 members of the Wild Boars youth soccer team and their assistant coach, Ekkapol Chantawong, following their rescue from the flooded Tham Luang cave. His efforts were the subject of a Wall Street Journal feature by Erich Schwartzel, which described a weeks-long quest involving meetings with the players' families, Buddhist temples in Chiang Rai, and a trip to Adelaide, Australia, where he signed rescue divers Craig Challen and Richard Harris.[3]
The resulting offer, from Universal Pictures, was for $1.5 million to be split among the 12 players and their coach, with producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti attached.[3] DelPiano had previously rushed to Vermont in 2009 to intercept Richard Phillips, the merchant marine captain taken hostage by Somali pirates; the resulting book and film became the 2013 hit Captain Phillips, starring CAA client Tom Hanks.[3]
Cavalry Media
[edit]In February 2019, DelPiano left CAA to join Cavalry Media — the finance and production company founded by Brunetti and Keegan Rosenberger — as a partner and president of its newly launched management division, Cavalry Management.[1][2] He departed Cavalry Media in April 2023 after four years as president; his clients were expected to follow him, and he remained attached as a producer on several projects.[5]
Producing
[edit]DelPiano served as a producer on the western Rust (2024), starring his client Alec Baldwin; The Hollywood Reporter noted it was his first producing credit after a long career in representation.[6] He was also an executive producer of the iHeartRadio/Cavalry Audio true-crime podcast Art Fraud, hosted by Baldwin.[7] DelPiano is a producer and manager at Ex-CUSE Media.[8]
Recognition
[edit]DelPiano is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences; he was invited to join in the Academy's 2014 class of 271 new members, as an associate member.[9]
In 2015, DelPiano was inducted into the Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction in Auburn, New York, an honor commended by the New York State Senate.[10]
