Martin Case (born October 18, 1971) is an American-Australian composer, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, and educator based in Melbourne, Australia. His work involves composing for dance, film, and ensemble works in the United States and Australia. He is the founder of the percussion ensemble Visionary in Boston and the group Visionary-Steel in Melbourne.[1]
Biography
[edit]Case graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1994 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Professional Music.[2]
Case has collaborated on music and educational projects associated with institutions including Harvard University, MIT, Boston Ballet, and the Boston Conservatory at Berklee.[3] During this period, he contributed to programs for dance organizations including the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, and Mark Morris Dance Group.[3]
After relocating to Australia in 2017, he worked as a lecturer and curriculum writer for JMC Academy in Melbourne until 2019. He has since held educational and leadership roles at the Universal School of Music and Music Valley.[3]
In collaboration with saxophonist Joe Brogan, Case released the albums Awakening (2013) and 4 Directions (2015).[4][5]

Community involvement
[edit]In 2021, Case established the Newport Drummers in Melbourne, an ensemble focusing on the application of percussion in community health, specifically for individuals affected by dementia and Parkinson's disease.[1][6] He also founded the Cherry Lake Cultural Series to promote local multicultural music.[1][7]
Case served as the President of the Lions Club of Altona for the 2023–2024 term.[7] In this role, he was a lead organizer for the concert at the Lions International (LCI) Convention held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in 2024.[1][7]
Recognition
[edit]- Recipient of the **Melvin Jones Fellowship**, awarded by Lions Clubs International Foundation for community and humanitarian service.[7]
