Marc Lipkin is an American music publicist who served as the Director of Publicity for Alligator Records from 1992 to 2026. He received the Keeping the Blues Alive Award from the Blues Foundation in 2005 and founded Lipkin Media, LLC.[1]

Early life and career

[edit]

Lipkin earned an English degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1987. He worked in Los Angeles for the Writers Guild of America West during the 1988 strike before returning to Chicago.

Alligator Records

[edit]

Joining Alligator Records in 1992 after contacting label founder Bruce Iglauer, Lipkin spent 34 years managing press campaigns. He wrote biographical profiles for the label's roster and secured mainstream media coverage in outlets like Rolling Stone and NPR.

As the official spokesperson for Alligator Records, Lipkin was quoted nationally by major news outlets to verify the passings of notable blues figures. He was quoted by the Associated Press in 2009 following the death of Koko Taylor,[2] and in The Boston Globe in 2017 following the death of James Cotton.[3] Label founder Bruce Iglauer documented Lipkin's promotional work on pages vii, viii, 276, and 285 of his 2018 book, Bitten by the Blues (University of Chicago Press).[4]

Lipkin Media

[edit]

In 2026, Lipkin launched an independent firm, Lipkin Media, LLC, to manage media relations for roots and blues artists.[5]
