Maniraj Barot (Gujarati: મણિરાજ બારોટ; born Manilal Barot, also known as Manilal Bhagat; died 30 September 2006)[1] was an Indian Gujarati folk singer and actor.[2][3] He was known for popularising Sanedo and other forms of North Gujarati folk music.[1][4][5]

In 1990, he moved to Ahmedabad, where he began working with poet and lyricist Prashant Kedar Jadhav. His first two audio cassettes were released in 1991.[1] Jadhav suggested the name Maniraj Barot, which was subsequently used for the cassette releases.[1]

Death

[edit]

Barot died in Rajkot on 30 September 2006 at the age of 42 after suffering a cardiac arrest while returning from a performance.[5][6]

Family

[edit]

His daughter, Rajal Barot, later pursued a career as a Gujarati singer and continued performing Sanedo and other folk songs associated with her father's legacy.[7]
