Madison Bycroft (born 1987) is a South Australian sculptor, performer, and video artist. They use they/them pronouns.[1]
Background
[edit]Bycroft was born in 1987 in Adelaide, Australia.[1] They graduated with a Bachelor's in Visual Arts from Coker College in 2008, a Bachelor of Visual Arts with first class honours at University of South Australia in 2012, and they were awarded the Samstag Scholarship, with which they undertook a Masters of Fine Art in the Piet Zwart Institute in 2014.[2][3]
Style
[edit]Bycroft works in many different mediums, including sculpting, videography, and performance.[4] Their work has been described by critics as "opaque,"[5] "strange and unrecognisable,"[6] and "all encompassing."[7]
Bycroft is known for their explorations of themes such as queerness,[5] plurality,[8] the illegible,[7] and animism.[9]
