Macroscope is an artificial intelligence software product for software development. The product performs automated code review, generates descriptions of pull requests, summarizes changes to a codebase, identifies software bugs, and produces status updates about engineering activity.[1] It was founded in July 2023 and publicly launched in September 2025.[1][2]
History
[edit]Macroscope was founded in July 2023 by Kayvon Beykpour, Joe Bernstein, and Rob Bishop.[1] Beykpour and Bernstein had previously co-founded the live-video service Periscope, which was acquired by Twitter in 2015; Beykpour later served as Twitter's head of product before leaving the company in 2022.[2][3] Bishop had founded the machine-learning company Magic Pony Technology, which Twitter acquired in 2016.[1]
The company is based in San Francisco.[1] At the time of its public launch it reported a team of about 20 people.[1]
Funding
[edit]Macroscope raised a $30 million Series A round in July 2025, led by Michael Mignano of Lightspeed Venture Partners, bringing the company's total capital raised to $40 million.[1][2] Other investors included Thrive Capital and Google Ventures.[1] The funding was announced alongside the product's public launch on September 17, 2025.[1][2]
Product
[edit]Macroscope is delivered as a GitHub application that is granted access to a customer's code repositories, and it can be connected to additional tools through optional integrations.[1] According to TechCrunch, engineers can use it to identify bugs to fix within pull requests, summarize pull requests, obtain summaries of how a codebase is changing, and ask questions about code, while product managers can use it to receive summaries of development activity.[1] The company has described the product as an "AI-powered understanding engine".[1] It is offered on a per-developer subscription basis.[1]
