Mandyath Sukumaran, professionally known as M. Sukumarji, is an Indian playwright, screenwriter,[1] film director, and editor from Keralam. He is known for his contributions to theater and Malayalam cinema, particularly in the genre of Akanatakam (indoor plays).[2]

Film and documentary

Sukumarji wrote the story, screenplay, and dialogues for the feature film Kaalchilambu.[1] The film was selected for the "Indian Panorama" section at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 2010[3] and was later screened in the "Focus" section at the Kerala Folklore Academy's International Folklore Film Festival in 2020.

In 2014, he wrote and directed the feature film Kandethal[4] [5] which portrays the emotional struggles surrounding runaway children through the lens of a spiritual journey.

He also wrote and directed the documentary Kaithayum Dalitharum Pinne Chamundiyum, which won the Kerala Folklore Academy Award for Best Documentary in 2022.[6]

Sukumarji has authored plays and play collections in Malayalam. [7] In addition to his independent creative writing, he served as the editor and publisher for several spiritual, philosophical, and Ayurvedic texts authored by Swami Nirmalanandagiri Maharaj. [8]

Early life

Sukumarji was born on 10 September 1960 in Kunhimangalam, Kannur district, Kerala, India. His parents were Mandyath Parvathi and K. V. Narayanan. He received spiritual guidance under Swami Nirmalanandagiri Maharaj.
