Dato' Lawrence Teo Chee Hong (born 28 September 1979) is a Malaysian entrepreneur, investor and company director. He is the founder of I Synergy Group Limited (ASX: IS3), a technology and performance-marketing company established in Malaysia in 2008 and subsequently listed on the Australian Securities Exchange.
Teo served in executive and board positions at I Synergy, including Group Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director and Executive Chairman. In July 2026, he became Founder and Non-Executive Deputy Chairman of the company.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Teo was born on 28 September 1979 and grew up in Kluang, Johor, Malaysia. His mother was a school teacher and his father operated a plant nursery business.[2]
He studied engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), where he obtained a bachelor's degree in engineering. He later obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA).[3]
Teo began his professional career as an engineer before moving into entrepreneurship. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants (FIPA), Australia, and a Fellow of the Institute of Financial Accountants (FFA).[3]
Career
[edit]I Synergy Group
[edit]In April 2008, Teo founded I Synergy Group in Malaysia. The company developed technology-enabled performance and affiliate-marketing solutions connecting businesses, consumers and marketing partners.[2]
Under Teo's leadership, I Synergy expanded its merchant, consumer and marketing networks and developed business operations beyond Malaysia. The company subsequently developed technology, loyalty, retail and digital programmes as part of its commercial platform.[4]
Teo served in senior executive positions at I Synergy, including Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director. In these roles, he was involved in corporate strategy, regional development and the company's public-market plans.[2]
Australian public listing
[edit]I Synergy pursued an Australian public-market strategy as part of its international expansion. The company entered the National Stock Exchange of Australia in 2016 and subsequently listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in March 2017 under the ticker symbol IS3.[5]
A 2016 report by The Edge Malaysia identified Teo as the founder and managing director of I Synergy and reported on the company's plans for an Australian initial public offering.[2]
Leadership and board roles
[edit]Following the company's listing, Teo continued to hold senior executive and board positions at I Synergy. His positions included Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman.[5]
In October 2022, I Synergy announced that Teo would step down from the board as Managing Director and continue with the company as Strategic Adviser, with a focus on the expansion of its technology platform in Southeast Asia.[6]
He subsequently returned to the board and served as Executive Chairman. In 2023, Bernama identified Teo as Executive Chairman of I Synergy in its coverage of the company's activities relating to the gig economy.[7]
In July 2026, I Synergy announced a leadership transition under which Teo became Founder and Non-Executive Deputy Chairman, while Anson Heng was appointed Executive Chairman and Managing Director. The new structure moved Teo away from day-to-day management while retaining his involvement in strategic guidance, governance and stakeholder engagement.[1]

He served in leadership roles at Arris Holdings Berhad, formerly I Synergy Holdings Berhad, including as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and subsequently as a Non-Executive Director.[8]
