Lars Ek (born 1945) is a Swedish accordionist, composer, arranger and educator known internationally for his contributions to classical and traditional accordion music. He is the founder of the Frosini Society (Frosinisällskapet), an international non‑profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the musical legacy of Pietro Frosini (1885–1951). Ek has been active as a performer and cultural organizer since the 1950s and is regarded as one of the central figures in Scandinavian accordion culture.

Early life and education

Ek was born in Stockholm, Sweden, and began playing the accordion at an early age. He developed an interest in classical accordion repertoire during the 1950s, influenced by early recordings of Pietro Frosini and other European accordion composers. His early musical training combined Swedish folk traditions with classical technique.

Career

Ek has worked as a performer, composer, arranger and teacher for more than six decades. His compositions and arrangements are widely performed in Scandinavia and internationally, and he has collaborated with accordionists, educators and cultural institutions across Europe, North America, South America, Australia and Russia.

In 1985 he founded the Frosini Society, which later developed into a global network of musicians, researchers and cultural organizations. Through the society, Ek has published sheet music, historical editions, educational material and archival resources related to early accordion repertoire.

Frosini Society

In 1985 Ek established the Frosini Society (Frosinisällskapet) in Sweden. The organization documents, publishes and promotes the works of Pietro Frosini and other early accordion composers. It maintains a digital archive, supports research, organizes concerts and educational events, and collaborates with international representatives in the United States, South America, Australia, Russia and Europe.
