Elizabeth “Lizzie” Batty (née Dwyer)[1], known online as LDShadowLady, (born 7 October 1992[2]) is a British YouTuber, notable for her Minecraft gaming videos.
She is notable for creating a musical production based off of a Minecraft multiplayer series, titled Empires SMP: The Musical, which premiered June 19, 2022[3].
She is a recurring member of the Life Series (founded by Grian), and is married to a fellow Minecraft YouTuber, Joel Batty (known online as SmallishBeans)[4].
As of July 2026, Lizzie’s main channel has 7.51 million subscribers, and 3.65 billion views.
Career
[edit]Lizzie’s main channel, LDShadowLady, was created on January 9, 2010, when she was 17 years old. Early in her career, she made Call of Duty 4, World of Warcraft and other horror gameplay videos[5][6]. Her channel name and gaming username was inspired by NDTitanLady, another YouTuber. LD were her initials, ‘shadow’ because she is ‘like a ninja’, and ‘lady’, because she stated people would hear her voice in proximity chat games and mistake her for a prepubescent boy[7][8].
In 2013, Lizzie began a singleplayer modded Minecraft series, titled Shadowcraft, which exploded in popularity and doubled her subscriber count from 50 thousand in September of 2012[9] to 100 thousand in June of 2013[10].
On 4 July of 2015, Lizzie’s channel reached 1 million subscribers, which she announced in a video three days later[11]. Her channel has grown steadily over the years, and she reached 5 million subscribers on 7 May 2020[12]. As of July 2026, she has 7.51 million subscribers.
In addition to being featured in numerous multiplayer Minecraft series, Lizzie has created numerous singleplayer series and occasional singleplayer building videos.
Lizzie also occasionally takes part in MCC (Minecraft Championship), which is a Minecraft tournament for streamers and YouTubers[13].
Lizzie appeared as a cameo in the 2025 film, A Minecraft Movie, alongside other notable Minecraft creators, DanTDM and Mumbo Jumbo[14].
In 2018, she and her husband appeared on Lateral, a game show run by presenter, Tom Scott. They were eliminated after their second round[15][16].
Personal life
[edit]Lizzie was born in Lincoln, England, in 1992[1]. In 1994, she gained a sister, Madeleine “Maddie”[17]. Lizzie has expressed online that her mother suffered with alcoholism while she and her sister were growing up[18].
In September 2011, Lizzie attended GameFest, where she met Joel Batty. They became close friends, before starting a relationship in 2012[18].
In April 2015, she graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with an Upper Second Class Degree of Computer Animation and Visualisation[19].
She worked as a primary school teacher for a short amount of time but quit after her students identified her as LDShadowLady[7][8].
In 2017 she and Joel got engaged, before getting married in Iscoyd Park on May 11, 2019[20].
She is bisexual and came out online publicly on June 27, 2021[21].
In August of 2025, she and Joel announced the birth of their first child, a daughter[22].
