Elizabeth “Lizzie” Batty (née Dwyer)[1], known online as LDShadowLady, is a British YouTuber, notable for her Minecraft gaming videos.[2][3][4]
She is a recurring member of the Life Series (founded by Grian),[5] and is married to a fellow Minecraft YouTuber, Joel Batty (known online as SmallishBeans).[6]
Career
[edit]Lizzie’s main channel, LDShadowLady, was created on January 9, 2010, when she was 17 years old. Early in her career, she made Call of Duty 4 gameplay videos.[7] Her channel name and gaming username was inspired by NDTitanLady, another YouTuber. LD were her initials, ‘shadow’ because she is ‘like a ninja’, and ‘lady’, because she stated people would hear her voice in proximity chat games and mistake her for a prepubescent boy.[8][9]
In 2015, Lizzie’s channel reached 1 million subscribers.[10]
Lizzie appeared as a cameo in the 2025 film, A Minecraft Movie, alongside other notable Minecraft creators, DanTDM and Mumbo Jumbo.[11]
Personal life
[edit]Lizzie was born in Lincoln, England, in 1992[1]. In 1994, she gained a sister, Madeleine “Maddie”[12]. Lizzie has expressed online that her mother suffered with alcoholism while she and her sister were growing up[13].
She worked as a primary school teacher for a short amount of time but quit after her students identified her as LDShadowLady.[8][9]
In 2017 she and Joel got engaged, before getting married in Iscoyd Park on May 11, 2019.[6]
She is bisexual and came out online publicly on June 27, 2021[14].
In August of 2025, she and Joel announced the birth of their first child, a daughter.[15]
