Kristine R. Ferrer is a Filipino lawyer and certified public accountant.[1] She is a partner at the Fortun, Narvasa and Salazar (FNS) law firm, where she heads the tax practice.[2] In 2026 she served as one of the defense counsel for Vice President Sara Duterte in the latter’s impeachment trial before the Senate.[3]
Early life and education
[edit]Ferrer originally from San Francisco, Agusan del Sur, Mindanao.[4] She earned her Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and her Bachelor of Laws degree at Ateneo de Davao University.[5] She passed the Philippine Bar examinations in 2011, having Roll of Attorneys No. 58882, and was the same university's former tax law professor of special proceedings and accounting.[6]
Career
[edit]Ferrer began her legal career as a tax lawyer at SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co. (SGV).[7] She subsequently joined Fortun, Narvasa and Salazar, where she became a partner and was designated head of the firm’s tax group.[8] Her practice areas include taxation, corporate and commercial law, arbitration, corporate rehabilitation, litigation, and dispute resolution.[9] She has appeared before the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Court of Tax Appeals.[10]
Some reported works under her practice areas consist of an approximate tax compromise settlement of Php 25 billion between Mighty Corporation and the Bureau of Internal Revenue,[11] and ancillary matters in connection with the acquisition of Mighty Corporation assets by JT International (Philippines), Inc., and a tax refund case for royalties in the Court of Tax Appeals.[12]
Impeachment trial of Sara Duterte
[edit]On July 6, 2026, the Senate, which will act as an impeachment court, starts the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.[13] Pre-trial order sets the date of trial to roughly 92 days.[14] Ferrer was included in the 16-member defense team, largely composed of lawyers from Fortun, Narvasa and Salazar.[15]
Her first appearance before the Sandiganbayan is on August 5, 2026,[16] was to argue against a prosecution motion regarding the stipulation of the contents of certain Commission on Audit (COA) documents.[17] A week later, on August 12, 2026, she cross-examined COA state auditor Xylene del Campo, as part of inquiries into the Vice President’s confidential funds.[18]
During the said cross examination, there was exchange between Ferrer and private prosecutor Lorna Kapunan.[19] It prompted presiding officer Senate President Francis Escudero to call for both counsels to tone down, joking it may be a generation thing.[20] Ferrer asked the court to disallow some side comments attributed to Kapunan and to require professional respect among the lawyers present.[21]
