Kin and Sin (Korean: 괸당) is an upcoming South Korean noir family drama television series written by Yoo Jae-hong, directed by Choi Jung-yeol, and starring Han Suk-kyu, Yoon Kye-sang, Choo Ja-hyun, Yoo Jae-myung, Kim Jong-soo, and Go Doo-shim. Set against the backdrop of Jeju Island, the series follows the intense conflict between three powerful local families—the Boo, Yang, and Go clans—as they engage in a bitter power struggle to protect their respective lineages, businesses, and control over the island's territory. It is scheduled for release on Netflix in 2027.
Synopsis
[edit]The Boo family, led by patriarch Boo Yong-nam, commands the island's livestock and horse racing industries. Yong-nam struggles to maintain his family's dominance and protect their land amid mounting external threats. The family's internal dynamics are further complicated by Yong-nam's estranged half-brother and second son, Boo Gun, who fights to secure his own position within the clan, and Boo Yong-sun, a decisive member of the family operations. Intertwined within this environment is Daepan Halmang, a local matriarch whose presence connects to the island's community ties and traditions.
As the Boo clan fights to preserve its legacy, they clash directly with two rival factions seeking to upend the island's hierarchy. Operating out of Jeju City and led by Yang Kwang-ik, the Yang family aggressively expands its influence and territorial control through major real estate and property development projects. Meanwhile, the Go family, based in Seogwipo and led by Go Dae-su, attempts to navigate the conflict after having once enjoyed an era of immense wealth through the local casino industry, from which they have since declined.

[edit]The series, under the working title Kin and Sin, is co-produced by Angel Ground and Studio N. It is directed by Choi Jeong-yeol, who previously directed the Disney+ series Vigilante (2023) and the feature films One Way Trip (2015) and Start-Up (2019).[2] Netflix then greenlit the production with veteran production members who previously worked on major South Korean projects, including The Age of Shadows (2016), The Spy Gone North (2018), Squid Game (2021–2025), Narco-Saints (2022), Bloodhounds (2023–2026), and My Daughter Is a Zombie (2025).[1]
Casting
[edit]In August 2025, media outlets reported on the development of the series' ensemble cast. On August 6, Ten Asia indicated that Han Suk-kyu and Go Doo-shim were reviewing offers to star in the series.[2][3] Ilgan Sports reported that Yoon Kye-sang had joined the project on August 11, followed by MK Sports reports of Yoo Jae-myung's casting on August 21.[4][5] Two months later, the appearances of all four actors were officially confirmed alongside Choo Ja-hyun and Kim Jong-soo.[1] In January 2026, Star News reported the announcement of Kim Kyung-nam's casting.[6]
Filming
[edit]Following the official confirmation of the series by Netflix in late 2025, pre-production activities began in December of that year.[7] Principal photography began on February 22, 2026, in Jeju Province, utilizing locations such as coastal roads, oreums, and rural villages. The production receives administrative support and location-scouting assistance from the provincial government and the Jeju Contents Agency, making it eligible for a financial incentive of up to ₩100 million. The collaboration follows a May 2024 memorandum of understanding signed between Jeju Province and Netflix to promote local tourism and cultural content.[8]
On June 7, 2026, Angel Ground signed a mutual agreement with the Korea Racing Authority (KRA) to support the series' horse racing subplots. The Authority provides filming locations and consultations regarding equine behavior. As part of the agreement, Angel Ground donated ₩20 million to the KRA's Social Contribution Foundation to fund welfare programs for retired racehorses.[9]
Release
