Khalifa: Part 1 – The Intro is an upcoming Indian Malayalam-language action thriller film directed by Vysakh and written by Jinu V. Abraham. The film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role, with Mohanlal appearing in a pivotal cameo role as Mambarakkal Ahmed Ali. It is the first installment of a planned two-part series, followed by Khalifa: Part 2 – His Reign.

Plot

The film centers on Aamir Ali (Prithviraj Sukumaran), an elite criminal and international fugitive involved in a multi-generational gold smuggling syndicate. The narrative explores the "bloody history" of the Mambarakkal family empire, tracking a vengeance that spans across Kerala, the Middle East, and London.

The project marks the reunion of Prithviraj Sukumaran and director Vysakh after 15 years, their last collaboration being Vysakh's debut film Pokkiri Raja (2010). The film was officially launched in July 2025. In December 2025, it was confirmed that Mohanlal would join the cast to play a legendary patriarch role.

Filming

Principal photography began in August 2025. The film was shot on a large scale across international locations including London, Dubai, and St. Petersburg, as well as various sites in Kerala and the Himalayas. On 13 January 2026, Mohanlal completed his portion of the shoot in Kochi. The filming was wrapped on 22 June 2026.[1][2][3]

Music

The original score and songs are composed by Jakes Bejoy, marking another collaboration with Prithviraj after Ranam and Jana Gana Mana. The first single titled "Asalayavale" was released on 20 July 2026.[4]

The film is scheduled to be released worldwide in August 2026, coinciding with the Onam festival season.

The film’s international release rights is bagged by Berkshire Dreamhouse, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana by think studios and Karnataka by think studios via VK Films Release.
