Katalina Rusu (born 22 February 1989) is a Moldovan singer, dancer and television presenter. She began performing as a child and has been active in music since 2002.[1]

Katalina Rusu's musical work has primarily included pop and dance-pop. In 2008, she participated in the televised international project Hello Jurmala in Jūrmala, Latvia, where she received an award for the brightest performer.[1] In 2009, she competed in Moldova's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Sparky Lady", finishing fifth among 20 participants.[2]

Alongside her music career, Katalina Rusu has worked as a television presenter and has appeared in entertainment and media projects. In 2018, she performed the theatrical concert Intimitate in Chișinău.[3]

Early life and musical beginnings

Katalina Rusu was born on 22 February 1989, in Chișinău, Moldova. From an early age, she showed an interest in music and participated in artistic activities at kindergarten and school. During this period, she also attended artistic gymnastics classes.

At the age of eight, she recorded her first song at the national television studio for the children's programme Cheița de aur. She later appeared on the television programme Tanti Ludmila Show, where she performed "Adagio", a song from the repertoire of Lara Fabian.[1]

Katalina Rusu made her first professional stage appearance in 2002 at the Golden Ferry festival in Sochi, Russia, where she performed the song "Noaptea de vară".[1]

In 2005, she released the song "Pentru dragostea mea".[1]

In 2008, she participated in the international televised project Hello Jurmala, held in Jūrmala, Latvia, where she received an award for the brightest performer.[1]

In 2009, Katalina Rusu entered Moldova's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Sparky Lady".[4] In the national final, held on 14 February 2009, she finished fifth among 20 participants.[2]

Throughout her musical career, Katalina has collaborated with composers and producers including Marian Stârcea, Viorel Burlacu, Eugen Doibani, Max Kissaru, Alex Brașoveanu, Mihai Teodor, Markus Lawyer, Igor Sârbu, Adrian Funk și OLiX. [1]

Education

In 2010, Katalina Rusu graduated from the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova, Faculty of International Economic Relations.[5]

In 2011, she graduated from the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts in Chișinău, specializing in Arts Management and Culturology.[6]

After establishing herself in music, Katalina also began working in television. Around 2010, she worked as a presenter at DTV.[1]

Pro TV Chișinău

Between 2013 and 2014, Katalina was a co-presenter of the automotive programme ProMotor, broadcast by Pro TV Chișinău, alongside Andrei Tabuică.[8][9]

Tezaur Media TV

In May 2025, Katalina Rusu began working as a presenter at Tezaur Media TV.[10]

At Tezaur Media TV, she presented television programmes and entertainment projects, including Dimineața la Tezaur.[11]

Her work with Tezaur Media TV also included presenting public performances organized by the broadcaster.[12]

In June 2026, Katalina announced a pause from television presenting in order to focus on her music projects and return to the stage.[13]

Concerts and tours

Intimitate

On 22 February 2018, Katalina Rusu performed the solo concert Intimitate at the Radisson Blu Leogrand Hotel in Chișinău, as part of her birthday celebration. The concert was presented as a theatrical production and was performed live, with the participation of artists and musicians from Moldova.[3]

The event also had a charitable purpose, with funds collected for the medical treatment of Iasmina Lefter. The concert featured Angry Band and the Chamber Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic "Serghei Lunchevici", conducted by Mihail Agafița, while the production was directed by Ianoș Petrașcu. Marian Stîrcea participated as a musical collaborator.[3]

The concert was filmed in full and was subsequently made available online as a video.[14]

National tours

Between 2023 and 2026, Katalina participated in several concert tours in Moldova, collaborating with the Plăieșii Ethnofolkloric Ensemble and established performers of Moldovan popular and light music.

2023 – Note de iubire

In 2023, Katalina participated as a performer and presenter in the national tour Note de iubire, alongside the Plăieșii Ethnofolkloric Ensemble and Anișoara Puică. The performances were held in six localities in Moldova.[15][16]

2024 – Te iubesc, femeie

In 2024, Katalina continued her collaboration with the Plăieșii Ethnofolkloric Ensemble, participating as a performer and presenter in the national tour Te iubesc, femeie, alongside Surorile Osoianu. The tour covered 11 localities in Moldova.[17][18]

2025 – Primăvara ești tu

In 2025, Katalina served as presenter for the national tour Primăvara ești tu, featuring the Plăieșii Ethnofolkloric Ensemble and singer Olga Ciolacu. The tour was presented in eight localities in Moldova.[19]

The event's promotional materials explicitly identified Katalina Rusu as a presenter alongside Olga Ciolacu and the Plăieșii Ethnofolkloric Ensemble.[19]

2026 – Primăvara ești tu

In 2026, Katalina Rusu continued as a presenter during the second edition of the Primăvara ești tu tour, featuring the Plăieșii Ethnofolkloric Ensemble and Romanian singer Gabriel Dorobanțu. The tour was presented in eight localities in Moldova.[20]

In the same year, Katalina Rusu presented another stage of the Primăvara ești tu tour, featuring Paul Surugiu (Fuego) and Mihai Ciobanu, held in six localities in Moldova.[21]
