  • Comment: In preparing this draft, I disclose that AI assistance was used as follows: The AI assistant Claude has been used to do the research on potential improvements and grammar fixing of the article. The AI as NOT been used for the auto-generating the texts. AI also helped to check the code source. All the verifiability and notability research has been done and checked manually to avoid hallucinations. Square Spiral (talk) 14:59, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: "The firm’s approach centers on an architecture of dialogue, embracing an inclusive, relational understanding to the surrounding world, fostering meaningful connections within its growing complexity" is promotional marketing garbage. Theroadislong (talk) 17:08, 26 March 2026 (UTC)

KAAN Architecten is a Dutch architectural firm based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, with two additional offices in São Paulo and Paris. It was established in 2014 by architects Kees Kaan, Dikkie Scipio and Vincent Panhuysen following the dissolution of Claus en Kaan Architecten.[1]

History

[edit]

KAAN Architecten originates from Claus en Kaan Architecten, founded in Amsterdam in 1988 by Kees Kaan and Felix Claus. The second office of the firm was established in Rotterdam in 1997, where Dikkie Scipio and Vincent Panhuysen soon became partners.[2] In 2014, after 26 years of partnership, the Rotterdam office continued the practice under the name KAAN Architecten.[3] Two additional branches were established in Brazil (2015) and in France (2019).[4] In 2025, KAAN Architecten announced the appointment of associate partners Renata Gilio, Marco Lanna, Antony Laurijsen, and Hrvoje Smidihen.[5]

Academia

[edit]

Kees Kaan has been professor of Architectural Design since 2006 at Delft University of Technology, holding the Chair of Materialization and initiator of the Complex Projects Chair from 2012. From 2019 to 2025 Kaan was the Chairman of the Architecture Department.[6] Dikkie Scipio has held the Chair of Architectural Design at the Münster University of Applied Sciences in Germany since 2019.[7]

Notable works

[edit]

The following list includes the selected works by KAAN Architecten and, before 2014, by its predecessor Claus en Kaan Architecten.

Selected awards and recognition

[edit]

Since 1994, projects by KAAN Architecten (including the works of Claus en Kaan Architecten) have been regularly included in the annual publication 'Architecture in the Netherlands Yearbook' over more than three decades.[26][27]
