Juliana Marie Beatriz Torres Gomez is a fencer from the Philippines who competed at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Pattaya, Thailand, in December 2025. She won a bronze medal in the women’s team epee event with teammates Alexa Larrazabal, Hanniel Abella, and Ivy Claire Dinoy. Gomez is the daughter of actor and politician Richard Gomez.[1][2]
Early life
[edit]Born to Philippine political and entertainment icons Richard Gomez (Leyte Representative) and Lucy Torres-Gomez (former model and Ormoc City Mayor), Juliana Gomez was a Public Administration student at the University of the Philippines.[3][4]
Collegiate and national career
[edit]After playing volleyball for the UP squad during her first year of college, Gomez switched to fencing and won a gold medal at the Air Force Open in Bangkok, in November 2022.[5][6] As a member of the UP Fighting Maroons, she claimed the individual épée gold medal at the UAAP Season 85 tournament in February 2023, after narrowly beating Cyrra Vergara of De La Salle University, 15-10, in the finals.[7] Gomez was named to the national women’s épée team for the Southeast Asian Games after posting a strong performance in the trials, which took place in June 2025.[8][9]
Fencing career
[edit]Gomez's early competitive career also includes winning the West Java Fencing Challenge in Indonesia in 2022. Even though she started to compete seriously at 19 after having to wait until her sophomore year in college because of the pandemic, Juliana was able to gain significant international attention as a fencer from Ormoc City.[10][11]
On March 15, 2024, Gomez successfully defended her collegiate title at the UAAP Season 86 women's fencing tournament in the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila. She won the individual épée gold medal for the second time in a row as she came within one point of De La Salle University's Cyrra Vergara.[12][13][14][15]
