- Comment: This isn't meeting the requirements for either [{WP:NPROF]] or WP:NAUTHOR at the moment. The two fellowships do not count under NPROF since they are "apply and pay" fellowships rather than elected. For authors the usual criteria is "two books, two reviews each book". Moreover just name checking the TLS isn't convincing evidence, it needs to be summarised. ChrysGalley (talk) 10:24, 20 June 2026 (UTC)

Jeremy Diaper FRSA FRHistS (born 1988), is a British academic administrator, literary scholar and environmental historian. His research specialisms include T. S. Eliot, literary modernism and ecocriticism. Since 2024, he has served as Director of Governance Services and Deputy Secretary to Council at the University of Exeter.
Early Life and Education
[edit]During 2000-2004, he was Head Chorister of the Southern Cathedral Singers, a renowned choral group associated with the Southern Cathedrals Festival. During this period his performances were recorded on BBC Radio 3's Choral Evensong and he deputised for the Cathedral Choirs of St Paul's Cathedral, Durham Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral, and Ely Cathedral.
Career
[edit]Diaper graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA, Hons) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) from the University of Birmingham in 2009 and 2011. He was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in English Literature from the University of Birmingham in 2015, where he studied under the supervision of Steve Ellis. His doctoral thesis ('A wrong attitude towards nature': T. S. Eliot and agriculture) was examined by Alexandra Harris. During his time at Birmingham he also studied alongside other notable writers including Islam Issa (academic) and Elizabeth O'Connor.
He is the author of T. S. Eliot and Organicism (2018) and editor of Eco-Modernism: Ecology, Environment and Nature in Literary Modernism (2023). T. S. Eliot and Organicism received widespread acclaim as an important contribution to environmental history. It provided the first account of Eliot's preoccupation with agrarianism and incorporated original historical research to contextualize several facets of his organic thinking, ranging from composting and soil fertility to regionalism and nutrition.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]
T. S. Eliot and Organicism (2018) was reviewed by Stefan Collini as the lead review in The Times Literary Supplement in May 2019 and praised for yielding "ample evidence of parallels between that of Eliot's work and a number of prominent writers on agriculture and its place in a good society.".[10]
Diaper delivered a keynote lecture at the T. S. Eliot International Summer School at Merton College, Oxford in 2024, which brings together renowned scholars, poets and novelists from around the world. Previous speakers have included Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney, playwright Tom Stoppard and poet Hannah Sullivan.[11]
He has written reviews for The Oxonian Review and Notes and Queries.[12][13][14][15]
His research on T. S. Eliot and the environment has also been published in Agricultural History (journal) and Agricultural History Review.[16][17]
Diaper was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in 2025 for his contribution to research on environmental history and T. S. Eliot's influential role in the espousal of the organic husbandry movement.[18]
He has also been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and is a member of the Senior Common Room University College, Durham.
