Jason Jakstys (born September 17, 2005) is an American basketball player for the Illinois Fighting Illini.[1][2]
High school career
[edit]As a Yorkville local, Jason attended Yorkville High School,[2] where he joined the varsity basketball team. During his high school career, he scored over 1,000 career points and led the Foxes[a] to forty-four victories in his final two seasons.[1]
College career
[edit]Jason joined the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign men's basketball team when he entered the college in 2023,[3][4] but sat out the 2024-25 season as a redshirt.[1]
During the 2025–26 season, he made his active debut for the Illini.[5] In January 2026, his season was cut short when he was ruled out for the remainder of the year due to a blood clot.[6][7] He was diagnosed with Venous thoracic outlet syndrome and thus underwent rib-removal surgery at Northwestern Medicine, and following a recovery, he rejoined the team ahead of the 2026–27 season.[6][8]
