Shri Guru Jambheshwar Mandir Jambholav Dham Commonly known as Jamba Temple, is a sacred pilgrimage site located in the village of Jamba in the Phalodi district (formerly Jodhpur district) of Rajasthan, India. It honors Guru Jambheshwar, the founding saint of the Bishnoi sect. [1]
This pilgrimage is 24 km from Phalodi tehsil district Jodhpur of the state. Situated in north-east direction. There is a big and picturesque pond here, which Jambhoji himself started digging in 1566 AD, whose excavation continued till 1570 AD. There is a temple very close to this pond, just towards the north.
There is a throne made of white Makran stone in the temple built on Jambholav. It is said that sitting on this, Guru Jambhoji used to watch the digging work of the pond. There is a village named Jambha at a short distance from Jambholav Dham. There are two traditions of sadhus here – one is Aguni Jaaga and the other is Aathuni Jaaga. There is an inscription near the pond regarding tax exemption for animals.
Jambholav is known by the names Visan Tirtha, Kaliyug Ka Tirtha, Visan Pond and Mukut Mani etc. The popular name of this Jambhani lake is Jambholav. There is a legend that Kapil Muni had performed penance at this place and Pandavas had also performed Yagya. Guru Jambhoji had revealed it in Kaliyuga.
Two fairs are held in Jambholav Dham throughout the year – one on the new moon day of Chaitra and the other on the full moon day of Bhadpad. Both the fairs were started by Saint Vilhoji. The first fair was started in the year 1648. For the second fair, Vilhoji had taken the help of Madhoji Godara of Pali village. It is known as Madho Mela. Jambhani saints have considered its importance more than sixty-eight pilgrimages. The visiting devotees take bath in the pond, remove mud, feed the sadhus and spin the yarn. It is said that taking bath in Jambholav pond cures physical and mental diseases.
Jambholav is famous for social decisions in Bishnoi society, the decisions taken here are considered final.
Due to the presence of two types of saint traditions in Jambholav, the arrangements for the temple and the pond are done by the saints of Aathuni Jaga for half the month and Aaguni Jaga in the remaining months.
