History
[edit]JMW was founded in 1978 as Jones Maidment Wilson, named after its three founding partners Bill Jones, Allan Maidment, and Ged Wilson. The firm initially specialised in criminal defence and legal-aid work before shifting towards commercial and private-client services in the mid-2000s.
In 2011 JMW launched Lawshare, a referral network that allows solicitors and other legal professionals to share clients and leads across practice areas.[2][failed verification]
The firm opened offices in Liverpool in 2018 and London in 2019 as part of its continued expansion.[3][failed verification] JMW has since increased its national presence and added new departments through lateral hires.[4]
Notable cases
[edit]In 2021 JMW represented Greater Manchester's night-time-economy adviser Sacha Lord in a judicial review challenging UK Government restrictions on hospitality venues during the COVID-19 pandemic.[5][failed verification][6][failed verification]
In 2023 the firm again acted for Lord in proposed group legal action concerning alleged hidden commission payments by energy brokers to suppliers in the hospitality sector.[7]
