Invest India is the national investment promotion and facilitation agency of India. Incorporated in December 17, 2009, it operates as a non-profit company under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.[1][2]

The agency provides investment facilitation services for domestic and international investors looking to establish or scale business operations in India. The agency supports investment facilitation initiatives associated with national programmes including Make in India and Startup India.[3]

Invest India was incorporated under Section 25 of the Companies Act 1956 (subsequently updated as Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013). The agency was established to promote and facilitate domestic and foreign investment into India. The primary objectives of the organization include:[3]

  • Enhancing the ease of doing business in India by providing investment facilitation and coordination services.
  • Attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows, specifically targeting manufacturing, green energy, and technology domains.
  • Coordinating regulatory integration between central government ministries and state-level administrative desks.

In July 2023, former Intel India head Nivruti Rai was appointed as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) of the agency, succeeding Manmeet K Nanda.[4][5]

  • WAIPA Governance: Invest India joined the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) in 2017. The agency served on its steering committee, was appointed to the Vice Presidency (2019–21), and held the WAIPA Presidency for the 2021–23 term.[34]
  • UNCTAD Investment Promotion Award (2020): The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) presented its annual investment promotion award to Invest India in December 2020, recognizing the agency's post-pandemic digital facilitation responses.[35]
