Insparya is a Portuguese clinical group specialising in hair transplantation and hair-loss treatment. Headquartered in Lisbon, it operates clinics in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Oman and Saudi Arabia and runs an in-house research centre, the Insparya Science and Clinical Institute, in Porto. The company was founded by the Portuguese entrepreneur Paulo Ramos and is co-owned by footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.[1][2]
History
[edit]The group originated in Portugal as Saúde Viável, a clinical operation dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and research of alopecia, founded by Paulo Ramos; Portuguese press dates the start of its expansion to 2009.[1][3] The Spanish business daily Cinco Días and the Jornal Económico have dated the Insparya company itself to 2018.[4]
In March 2019, the company opened its first clinic in Madrid, Spain, in partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo, who became co-owner of the Spanish operation; the Madrid clinic, which opened on 18 March 2019, was the first to use the "Insparya" name.[1][5] In June 2021, the Saúde Viável group adopted "Insparya" as its single corporate identity across all of its clinics. At the same time, Ronaldo entered the capital of the Portuguese parent company as a shareholder; the Luso-British investment-fund consortium Vallis/Hermes had previously taken a 50% stake in the Portuguese business, with the remaining half held by founder and chief executive Paulo Ramos.[6][1] By 2024, Spanish business press reported the group's capital as divided in broadly similar shares between founder Paulo Ramos, Ronaldo's holding company CR7 SA and the investment fund Vallis Capital Partners.[7]
Operations

[edit]After establishing its Spanish presence in Madrid (2019) and Marbella, Insparya opened a third Spanish clinic in Valencia in 2022 and later added clinics in Bilbao, Barcelona and Málaga.[8][9][4] In September 2022, it opened its first Italian clinic in Milan, near the Colonne di San Lorenzo, in an investment reported at about €2 million; the clinic was described as having 14 surgical rooms and a medical team of more than one hundred specialists.[10]
In May 2024, the group opened its first clinic outside Europe, in Muscat, Oman, operating within the Oman International Hospital.[3][4] The company subsequently announced further openings in Rome and in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the latter in the country where Ronaldo had been playing since 2023.[4] Company representatives have noted that Ronaldo's presence in markets such as Saudi Arabia helped significantly raise the brand's international profile and marketing reach.[4] As of 2024, the group reported a network of around a dozen clinics, comprising five in Portugal (Braga, Porto, Viseu, Lisbon and Vilamoura), five in Spain (Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Málaga and Valencia) and one in Italy (Milan); its earlier Marbella clinic was relocated to Málaga.[2][7]
Finances
[edit]Insparya reported revenue of about €10.6 million and a profit of around €1.8 million in 2020, when it operated a single clinic. By 2021, group revenue had risen to about €33.6 million, with a net result of roughly €8 million; at that time the company employed around 330 people, of whom about 14 worked in research.[8][4] The company has stated a target of reaching €100 million in sales by 2026 and has announced multi-year investment plans for international expansion.[4][8]
Ronaldo's partner, Georgina Rodríguez, had been listed among the administrators of the Spanish company and ceased to hold that role in July 2024.[4]
Research and technology
[edit]Insparya operates a research centre, the Insparya Science and Clinical Institute, in Porto, directed by Carlos Portinha, who also serves as the group's chief clinical officer.[10][11] According to the Portuguese and Italian press, the group invests roughly €2–3 million a year in biomedical and technological research, including a proprietary follicular-unit extraction device marketed as BotHair UltraPlus, intended to make extraction faster and less invasive.[2][11] Company executives have also said that Insparya is developing a topical drug for androgenetic alopecia, tested in mice, which they have claimed could outperform existing treatments such as minoxidil and finasteride; as of 2024, the product remained in a testing phase.[7]
