Md. Imrul Hassan (born 22 July 1968) is a Bangladeshi business executive and football administrator. He is the senior vice-president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) and president of professional football club Bashundhara Kings.[1]
Hassan has also served as chairman of the BFF Professional League Management Committee and previously chaired the Dhaka Metropolitan Football League Committee.[2][3]
Early life and education
[edit]Hassan was born on 22 July 1968 in Comilla, Bangladesh. He completed postgraduate studies at the University of Dhaka.
Business career
[edit]Hassan is associated with Bashundhara Group, where he has held senior management positions. He has been described in media reports as a senior executive of the group.
He has also been associated with Bashundhara Paper Mills Limited and other concerns of the Bashundhara Group.
Football administration
[edit]Bashundhara Kings
[edit]Hassan is the president of Bashundhara Kings, a professional football club competing in the Bangladesh Premier League.[4]
During his tenure as president, Bashundhara Kings have competed in domestic and continental competitions and have won multiple domestic titles.
The club also developed the Bashundhara Kings Arena, its own football stadium and training infrastructure in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Football Federation
[edit]Hassan was elected a vice-president of the Bangladesh Football Federation in the 2020 BFF election.[5]
Following the 2024 BFF election, he became senior vice-president of the federation.[1]
Dhaka Metropolitan Football League Committee
[edit]Hassan served as chairman of the Dhaka Metropolitan Football League Committee while serving as a BFF vice-president.[3]
The committee oversees lower-tier football competitions in Dhaka, including first, second, third and pioneer division competitions.
In March 2024, Hassan sought to step down from his position as chairman of the metropolitan league committee.
Professional League Management Committee
[edit]In November 2023, then-BFF president Kazi Salahuddin stepped down as chairman of the Professional League Management Committee and Hassan was appointed to the position.[6]
Soon after taking charge, Hassan chaired a meeting of the committee concerning possible changes to the domestic league format.[7]
The regulations for the 2023–24 BFF U-18 Football League also identified Hassan as BFF vice-president and chairman of the Professional League Management Committee.[8]
Following the formation of the new BFF executive committee in 2024, Hassan remained chairman of the Professional League Management Committee.[4]
As of 2026, he continues to be identified as BFF senior vice-president, Professional League Management Committee chairman and Bashundhara Kings president.[1]
Conflict-of-interest discussion
[edit]Hassan's simultaneous positions as president of Bashundhara Kings and chairman of the BFF Professional League Management Committee have led to public discussion regarding a potential conflict of interest.
When he was appointed league committee chairman in November 2023, media reports raised questions about a president of a top-flight club overseeing the committee responsible for managing the professional league.[6]
The issue was again discussed after the new BFF executive committee retained him as chairman of the league committee in 2024.[4]
