House of Shan is an clothing and accessories brand located in Austin, TX. It was founded by Shannon Buth in 2020 in Chicago, IL. [1] The signature design of the brand is an Imperfect Heart, which represents embracing imperfection. House of Shan pledges $5 from every purchase to a monthly charity partner.[2]
History
[edit]House of Shan was founded in Chicago, IL in 2020 after Shannon Buth embroidered the imperfect heart design from her blog onto 30 sweatshirts to sell at a holiday market. All proceeds benefited a local women's shelter, House of the Good Shepard.[1] The heart was meant to encourage people to embrace their imperfections and live with passion.
Following the initial sweatshirt sales, House of Shan expanded production and began selling its products online, with the commitment to donate $5 from every purchase to a monthly charity partner[2]. House of Shan subsequently expanded its product line to include T-Shirts, hats, drinkware, socks, pins and other accessories.
The business was established after the death of founder Shannon Buth's mother from cancer, an experience that inspired the company's imperfect heart design. [3]
Charitable giving
[edit]As of August 2026, House of Shan has reported raising over $280,000 through its charitable giving program, which donates $5 from every purchase to a monthly charity partner, with a focus on women's and children's charities.[4]
After the July 2025 floods in Central Texas, House of Shan introduced its Hearts for Hill Country trucker hat, directing all proceeds to the Kerr County Relief Fund. The company raised over $125,000 and was awarded the Social Impact Award by Austin Monthly during its yearly Best of ATX awards for its efforts.[5]
Retail expansion
[edit]In August of 2026 the company opened its first physical location in Austin, TX at 8907 Bee Cave Rd. The House of Shan Cottage is a retail boutique featuring items from the House of Shan collection as well as other curated gifts.[6]
