Hawaldari Ram Gupt was born 5th January 1888 in Hariharganj, Palamu Jharkhand..[1] He began his profession career as a teacher in at Palamu District school in 1911. Later he was appointed as the Principal at Palamu District school. Then he retried as Principal at 1945. He was also the founder President of Palamu Hindin Sahitya Sammelan.

Hawaldari Ram Gupt was proficient in both Hindi and Bengali, and could read write speak in both the language. His literary work covered a range of subjects, including literature, history and drama. Much of his work focused on writing history and cultural heritage of the Palamu region. He wrote more than 30 books, covering the range of literary and historical subjects. He also wrote the play Shyamali which was so popular that it was staged for 6 months.

Manohar Pothi is one of the famous hindi education book orginally created/authored by Hawaldari Ram Gupt. This book became widely useful for teaching hindi to children and adults and it is regarded as one of his best known works. Its use extended beyound the Palamu region, supporting Hindi Education in other parts of the country.

Palamu Ka Itihas

Palamu Ka Itihas is the historical work Hawaldari Ram Gupt that focus on the history of the palamu region. The work reflect his interest in documenting and storing the historical heritage of the region.[3] The work was reported to received a Goverment of India research award in 1970.

Journalism and Publishing

After retiring as the Principal of Palamu District school in 1945, Hawaldari Ram Gupt established Haldhar Press in 1948. Through the press he published weekly Haldhar Samachar which continued to publish untill 15 January 1978[4]

Legacy

Hawaldari Ram Gupt is remembered for his contribution to education, Hindi Literature, Journalism, publishing and the documentation of regional history. His work particularly Manohar Pothi and his history book on Palamu, is associated with Hindi education and the preservation of the region's literary and historical heritage.
