Guido Mazzetti (24 June 1916 – 14 February 1997) was an Italian football manager and player who played as a midfielder.

He holds the record for the most matches managed in Serie B, with 626 games.[1]

Career

[edit]

Mazzetti began his playing career in the youth sector of Bologna.[2] As a senior midfielder, he played for several Italian clubs, including Parma, Stabia, Borzacchini Terni, Udinese, Napoli, Savoia, Siracusa, and Perugia.

He started his coaching career in 1946 at Siracusa while still a player.[3] Over a managerial career spanning four decades, he managed many Italian teams in Serie B and Serie C. His most notable spell was with Perugia, where he spent 14 seasons as head coach across four periods, leading the club to promotion to Serie B in 1967.[4]

He also won the Serie C title with Livorno in the 1963–64 season, and managed Catania across six distinct spells.[2]

Personal life

[edit]

During World War II, Mazzetti was an anti-fascist activist affiliated with the Action Party in Umbria.[5] In June 1944, he was arrested in Perugia for distributing anti-fascist literature on behalf of the National Liberation Committee (CLN).[5]
