Golfbreaks (trading name of Golfbreaks Limited) is a golf tour operator headquartered in Windsor, Berkshire, United Kingdom, part of the wider Sports Tours International and Fred Done group.[1] As stated by Golfbreaks, the business arranges golf trips and holidays for over 230,000 golfers annually, including resort packages, tailored golf tours, and tournament travel experiences, for customers in the UK, Europe, North America and other international destinations.[1][2]

History & Early Years

[edit]

Golfbreaks Limited was founded in 1998 by Andrew Stanley and incorporated in the United Kingdom on 28 May 1998.[3] The company was established as a specialist golf travel operator, focusing exclusively on golf holidays and short golf breaks rather than general leisure travel.

In its early years, Golfbreaks primarily arranged UK-based domestic golf breaks, with a particular emphasis on England, Wales and Scotland.[4] Packages typically combined accommodation with pre-arranged tee times, targeting individual golfers, groups, and golf societies.

As demand for overseas golf travel increased among UK customers in the early 2000s, the company expanded its offering to include Ireland and mainland Europe, notably destinations in Spain and Portugal.[5]

Expansions & Partnerships

[edit]

Teeofftimes and sale to GolfNow

[edit]

In the early 2000s, Golfbreaks launched Teeofftimes.co.uk, an online tee-time booking platform that allowed golfers to search for and book tee times at courses across the United Kingdom. The service went on to list more than 1,400 courses and facilitating over 410,000 rounds annually by 2015.[6]

Golfbreaks sold Teeofftimes.co.uk in 2015 to GolfNow UK, the UK subsidiary of NBC Sports Group-owned GolfNow, for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition formed part of a strategic partnership between the two companies, enabling GolfNow to strengthen its position in the UK market while allowing Golfbreaks to focus on the continued growth of its golf travel business in the UK and the US.[7]

Golfshake joint venture

[edit]

In 2007, Golfbreaks co-founded Golfshake, an online golf media and community platform, as a joint venture with industry partners. The venture expanded the company's presence beyond travel by providing golf course reviews, news, equipment content, handicap tracking and community features for golfers.[8] Golfbreaks purchased Golfshake wholly in August 2025.[9]

International expansion (North America and Scandinavia)

[edit]

In 2015, Golfbreaks expanded beyond the United Kingdom with the opening of a North American office in Charleston, South Carolina. Initially focused on arranging golf travel from the United States to destinations in the United Kingdom and Ireland, the business later broadened its offering to include domestic US golf trips, as well as destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, and mainland Europe.

Golfbreaks also established a Scandinavian operation in 2015, based in Hellerup, Denmark, serving customers across Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.[10] The business was created to support growing demand for overseas golf travel in the Nordic region.

PGA TOUR investment and “Golfbreaks by PGA TOUR”

[edit]

Golfbreaks and the PGA TOUR announced a strategic partnership in October 2019 that included the PGA TOUR taking a minority shareholding in Golfbreaks Limited, alongside a brand and commercial collaboration under the “Golfbreaks by PGA TOUR” name (particularly aimed at growth in North America).[11] The PGA TOUR remained a minority shareholder until April 2026, when Golfbreaks was acquired by Sports Tours International.[1]

Acquisition by Sports Tours International

[edit]

In April 2026, Golfbreaks was acquired by Sports Tours International (STI), a UK-based sports travel company headquartered in Warrington, Cheshire. The acquisition formed part of STI's strategy to expand its presence in the golf travel sector, following its earlier acquisition of Golf Holidays Direct in 2025.[1][12]

Following the transaction, Golfbreaks continued to operate as a standalone brand from its Windsor headquarters, with founders Andrew Stanley, Steve Hemsworth, Guy Proddow and Daniel Grave remaining with the business.[1][13]

Services

[edit]

Golfbreaks provides a range of golf-related travel services for individuals, groups and corporate clients. Its core offering consists of customisable golf travel packages, typically combining accommodation with pre-booked tee times and optional transport or additional services.[2]

In addition to standard golf breaks and holidays, the company offers tournament-related travel packages, including accommodation and ticket options linked to professional golf events such as the Masters and The Ryder Cup.[14]

Golfbreaks also operates an amateur events division, trading under the name Amateur Golf Events, which organises UK-based and overseas amateur tournaments and competitive golf experiences. These events typically include organised competition formats, accommodation (for overseas events) and course access, and are aimed at non-professional golfers.[15][16]

Destinations

[edit]

Golfbreaks offers golf travel across a range of destinations in the United Kingdom, Ireland, continental Europe, North America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.[5]

Within the UK and Ireland, countries include England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, with a particular focus on established golf regions specialising in links golf (St Andrews, Southport) and major resort areas in England.[5]

In Europe, Golfbreaks arranges golf travel to countries including Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Turkey and Cyprus. Iberian destinations, particularly Spain and Portugal, have historically formed a significant part of the company’s European portfolio due to year-round playing conditions, convenient flight paths and the concentration of purpose-built golf resorts.[5]

Long-haul destinations offered by Golfbreaks include the United States, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Thailand and Mauritius, among others.[5][17]

Through its North American business, Golfbreaks offers golf travel to destinations across the United States, including major golf regions such as South Carolina, Florida, Arizona, Nevada, California, North Carolina and Utah, as well as international destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe and South Africa.[18][19]
