Comment: This is going to be very difficult to get through WP:NORG since we need reliable in-depth secondary independent sources, and that's not present. The nearest turns out to be PRNewswire, so that certainly isn't going to give notability under NORG. Plus media organisations tend not to like giving bandwidth to other media organisations. Essentially we will need ideally three examples of significant coverage, in truly independent secondary sources, not interviews or sourced via GSW, to give sufficient for a summary to be created. At the moment this looks like a draft was written and then sources found, when it should have been the other way around. See WP:BACKWARDS.Also, best not to use social media, that's not a reliable souce, and remove direct URLs from within the text, everything has to go via references/citations. Global South World, globalsouthworld.com.[1] is a news media focusing on the Global South. It was founded in October 2023 and covers politics, general news and business, among other areas. Its founding editor was Ismail Akwei.
The media organisation works with journalists based in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America with a production hub in Accra, Ghana.[2]
Set up to address an "information inequality" which has become considerable following changes in international power balances in the first decades of the twenty-first century, Global South World prioritises publishing across social media,[3] where most audiences spend the bulk of their digital lives. As part of this initiative, it partners with news creators [4] on three continents to create the Global South Voices network. Editor Ismail Akwei told Africa.com [5] that he expects disruption to international media organisations resulting from generative AI and consumer behavioural shifts to provide an opportunity for African media to catch up with rivals in the West.
It is known for reporting issues relating to democracy and human rights and has been cited by international NGOs[6]. It describes its mission as providing information in multimedia formats to help citizens make decisions about their lives. [7]
The website has interviewed leading figures in politics and business, including Ghana's president John Mahama[8], Philippines businessman Sabin Aboitiz [9], the Deputy Prime Minister of Congo Daniel Mukoko Samba [10] and former Bolivian president Carlos Mesa.[11]
It is also known for its powerlists recognising journalists who are breaking out of traditional media formats to reach younger audiences on social platforms.[12][13][14]
In 2025 Global South World partnered with Kondiment to boost its audiences across social media and through search.[15]
It publishes the World Reframed weekly edition (ISSN 2978-4891) and produces the World Reframed podcast.
The website describes itself as editorially independent but receives funding from the Impactum Group.[16]
