Gentlemen is a play written and directed by Anil Abraham and is about the problems that men face. The play was staged several times including in 2007, 2010, 2017, 2022, and 2023.[1][2]
- Chacko (played by Ashvin Mathew), a newly wed software engineer, who has marital problems including struggling to get it up[5]
- Shoaib, a Shivajinagar barber[3]
- Shailesh, a teenager[3]
- Ramalingam (played by Rajeev Ravindranathan), a senior citizen[3]
- Vaijayanthi (first played by Shraddha Jain[6] and later by Kirtana Kumar[4]), a young woman[7]
Production
[edit]The play was first staged in 2007 and was revised in 2022 to be politically accurate.[1] The play features a single female character for "balance" for its four male characters.[2] Ashvin Mathew's character was originally from Andhra Pradesh but since Mathew's use of a Malayali accent was well received the character was changed to be a Malayali instead.[6]
Legacy
[edit]Ashvin Mathew made his film debut in English Vinglish (2012) after an assistant director watched his performance in the play.[5]
