Garrett Marrero is the co-founder and CEO of Maui Brewing Company, the largest craft brewery in Hawaii. In 2012, he received the Small Business Person of Year for Maui County, followed by an award for Small Business Person(s) of the Year from the U.S. Small Business Administration in 2017, and was further recognized as the Entrepreneur of the Year in 2018. In 2020, when COVID forced closures across the nation, Garrett pivoted to help his community by using his resources to create more home-consumable beverages and even hand sanitizer. In 2021, he bought the San Diego based brand Modern Times, expanding the Maui based, private owned brand to mainland market like never before. By 2023, Garrett Marrero was overseeing two restaurants/breweries in Oahu (Kailua and Waikiki) and two restaurant/breweries in Maui (Kihei and Kaanapali) in addition to his acquired Modern Times brand in San Diego. In August 2023, after the devastating wildfires of Lahaina, he was one of the first to open his restaurant doors to the public - giving free meals to anyone in need and personally delivering supplies to the community of Lahaina. By 2025, his company branched out to spirits of Vodka, in addition to their Whisky, and Gin, under the co-branded company, Kupu Spirits. Garrett is also a long term board member of the Brewers Association of American and recently hosted the U.S. Tourism Envoy, Nick Adams in his Maui locations, educating the Ambassador on Maui's unique sourcing and brand challenges.
