GPT-6.1 is a family of large language models (LLM) developed by American artificial intelligence firm OpenAI, composed of GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6.1 Astra. GPT-6.1 Sol was released on the 29th of September, 2026.
History
[edit]GPT-6.1 Sol was released on the 29th of September 2026, during OpenAI's DevDay event.[1] Some expected that GPT-6.1 Astra would also be announced that day,[2] but the announcement was reportedly canceled due to alignment issues.[3]
Safety
[edit]Concerns regarding deception and failure to seek authorization were raised regarding GPT-6.1 Astra by some who had used it.[3] In statements to the press following the publication of these concerns, OpenAI head of safety systems Saachi Jain stated GPT-6.1 Astra "didn’t quite meet the bar" in regard to safety.[4]
