Fusion Connect is an American company based in Atlanta, Georgia. It is a provider of cloud-based communications and connectivity services to businesses across the United States. Services offered by the company include Internet access, unified communications as a service (UCaaS), contact center as a service (CCaaS), Microsoft Teams and Microsoft licenses, POTS replacement, software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN), and managed security, among others.
History
[edit]Fusion Telecommunications Inc. was founded in September 1997 by Marvin S. Rosen and Philip D. Turits following the passage of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. The company was originally founded to provide telecommunications equipment, communications services, and information technology (IT) services to business customers.[1]
On February 25, 2005, Fusion Telecommunications commenced its initial public offering (IPO), becoming a public company listed on the Nasdaq.[2]
In 2016, Fusion Telecommunications acquired Apptix, Inc., a provider of cloud-based communications, collaboration, virtual desktop, compliance, security and cloud computing solutions.[3]
In 2018, Fusion Telecommunications changed its name to Fusion Connect and acquired Birch Communications and MegaPath.[4][5]
In May 2019, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled that Fusion Connect had defaulted on bond payments and the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.[6] In January 2020, Fusion Connect exited Chapter 11 and emerged as a privately held company, with Morgan Stanley Investment Management as the company's majority shareholder.[7][8]
In 2024, Fusion Connect appointed Bill Wignall as CEO. Wignall had previously been CEO of Sangoma Technologies, a global provider of communications services.[9]
In 2025, Fusion Connect received industry recognition for its customer service model, which emphasizes locally based support teams.[10][11] In 2026, Fusion Connect was named by Newsweek to its America's Most Admired Workplaces list.[12]
