Francisco Saia (born 18 September 1998) is an Italian film director and screenwriter.
Early life and education
[edit]Saia was born in Savona, Liguria. In 2018, he graduated from the SDAC – Scuola d'Arte Cinematografica in Genoa, studying directing and screenwriting. He later studied DAMS (Discipline delle Arti, della Musica e dello Spettacolo) at the University of Turin.[1]
Career
[edit]Saia directed the short films Abraham (2018) and The Double (2021). In 2020, he made his feature film debut with Boccaccio 2020 – Novella Trash, produced by FEDIC. The following year, he directed the science fiction film Dalì 2021.
In December 2021, he received the "Miglior talento ligure dell'anno" award from the Liguria regional administration.[2]
In 2023, production began on his fantasy feature film The Thief of Falling Stars (Il ladro di stelle cadenti), which received funding from the Italian Ministry of Culture.[3] The film, starring Daniel McVicar, premiered at the 70th Taormina Film Fest in July 2024 in the "Officina Sicilia" section[4] and was later released theatrically in Italy in October 2024.[5]
