AssociationFootura' is a Bulgarian non-profit organisation based in Sofia and established in 2013. It focuses on grassroots sport, amateur sport and youth development, health promotion, social inclusion and international sport cooperation. An organisational profile published by Sportanddev describes Footura's work in sport, charity, football, tennis, table tennis, amateur tournaments and children's and youth activities and health.

History and sporting activities

Footura's initial activities included amateur sports competitions and sporting events at community level. In March 2014, ''Sportal.bg'' reported on the first tournament of the Footura-Olympic amateur tennis championship, organised by Association Footura and Olympic Sport. The following Sportal report followed up on the third tournament of the Footura-Olympic series and described it as part of an amateur ranking competition organised by Footura and Olympic Sport. Footura has also developed activities supporting young athletes. In 2016, ''Sportal.bg'' reported on the organisation's ''Talent in Sport'' scholarship programme which was intended to provide financial, informational and consultancy support to young athletes, along with mentoring and assistance related to training, equipment and participation in competitions. In June 2017, Bulgarian National Radio reported on the Sofia Air(s)port initiative, organised by Footura together with FC Orlovec, sports club Jaguares, Sofia Municipality and Sofia Airport. This initiative included children from four Sofia schools and involved football, basketball and gymnastics activities.

Sport and social development

Footura makes use of sport in relation to activities for the development of youth, health and social participation. Sportanddev describes the organisation as working across a range of sports and identifying youth development, economic development and health amongst its focus areas. It has also been involved in activities which combine sport with international cooperation and social inclusion. Footura has developed amateur sporting events and activities in football, tennis and table tennis, as well as those involving recreation and sport with active leisure and tourism.

European cooperation

Footura has participated in European sport and youth cooperation projects, including projects supported through the European Union's Erasmus+ programme. It has been involved in a number of European-level sport projects.

STEADY (Sports as a Tool of Empowerment for dis-Abled Displaced Youth)

Footura participated in '''STEADY (Sports as a Tool of Empowerment for dis-Abled Displaced Youth)''', a European project addressing the use of sport in the inclusion and empowerment of displaced young people and those with disabilities. Sportanddev published material about the project and identified Footura amongst the participating European organisations. This project involved a number of organisations, including those based in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Greece and an organisation based in the Netherlands.

MATCH

Footura participated in '''MATCH''', a European cooperation project examining the relationship between sport and youth work and the use of sport in social inclusion.

SPID-AP

Footura participated in '''SPID-AP''', a European sport cooperation project concerned with inclusive sport and autism spectrum disorders. A report on the project's European launch identified Footura as the Bulgarian organisation participating in the international partnership. This project involves a number of organisations across Europe.

Other European networks

Footura has also been involved in European professional and educational networks. It has been listed as a member of the Skillman Network. In 2017, Skillman published an interview with Emiliyan Metodiev in relation to his role as a Skillman ambassador and his work with Association Footura.

Support for athletes

Footura has developed programmes providing support to young athletes. Its ''Talent in Sport'' programme combined financial assistance with information and consultancy for selected young athletes. The organisation has also developed sports consultancy and individual sports-development activities. These include working with sports organisations and individual athletes. Footura's activities have included consultancy for football and sports clubs, work relating to sports organisation and development, and individual training and development activities for athletes.

International sports cooperation

In 2013, ''Sortal.bg'' published an interview with Răzvan Burleanu, the president of the European Minifootball Federation, conducted by Association Footura. The interview discussed the development of minifootball and participation in the sport in Bulgaria.

Research and educational activities

Footura has been associated with research and educational publications concerning sport, health, youth development, social inclusion and active cities. Publications associated with the organisation and its chair, Emiliyan Metodiev, include works addressing health promotion in sports clubs, social integration through sport, active-city development and sport and youth work. Research-related publications associated with Emiliyan Metodiev and Association Footura include work on health promotion in sports clubs, social integration through the training of coaches and sport clubs, the role of sport and youth work in social inclusion and active cities development. It has also developed educational resources related to sport, including encyclopaedic and digital materials concerning sports and sporting history.

Other activities

In addition to European cooperation projects, Footura has developed amateur sporting events, charity-oriented sports activities, sports consultancy, individual training programmes and educational and digital resources related to sport. The organisation's activities have included football, tennis and table tennis, as well as other recreational and community sporting activities. Footura has also developed digital and educational resources connected with sport, including mobile applications, sports-related encyclopaedic materials and resources for individual sports development.
