The case for notability is not very clear. Many of the awards do not contribute to notability, and some of the putative discussion of the company looks rather like reprocessed press releases. Other sources mention use of its data but have no analysis of the company. M kuhner (talk) 04:47, 29 August 2026 (UTC)

Flashpoint is an American cybersecurity and threat intelligence company based in Washington, D.C. It provides software as a service (SaaS) and intelligence for organizations to disrupt phishing and fraud attacks, software vulnerabilities, physical security risks, and other cyber threats. In 2024, it became the largest privately-held provider of threat data and intelligence.[1]

History

[edit]

Flashpoint was founded in 2010. Its founders – Josh Lefkowitz, Evan Kohlmann, Josh Devon, and Laith Alkhouri – brought several years of experience working with government agencies including FBI, DOJ, SO15, among others. For its first few years, the company focused on tracking terrorist networks, extremist groups, and digital radicalization efforts.

Company Growth

[edit]

Flashpoint soon expanded its operations to monitor financial fraud, cybercrime cartels, and state-sponsored cyber espionage, securing multiple rounds of venture capital funding.

In 2015, Flashpoint raised $5 million in its first Series A funding round.[2]

Shortly after in 2017, Flashpoint completed a larger $28 million Series C funding round.[3]

In July 2021, Audax Private Equity acquired a majority, controlling interest in Flashpoint and has remained its majority investor since.[4]

In 2022, Flashpoint acquired Risk Based Security and Echosec Systems.

In April 2023, Flashpoint launched its intelligence platform under the name Flashpoint Ignite.[5]

In 2024, Flashpoint became the largest privately-held provider of threat data and intelligence.

Acquisitions

[edit]

In January 2022, Flashpoint acquired Risk Based Security (RBS), adding vulnerability intelligence and data breach tracking to its product suite.[6]

In August 2022, Flashpoint acquired Echosec Systems and added public web-mapping and social media tracking tools.[7]

Research and Threat Analysis

[edit]

Flashpoint's team of intelligence analysts regularly publishes research on cybercrime trends, ransomware campaigns, and geopolitical cyber warfare.[8] The team’s analysis is frequently cited by national media outlets, especially during geopolitical and military conflicts.[9]

Geopolitical Conflict Tracking

[edit]

Throughout the Israel-Hamas War, Flashpoint has provided analysis to various national outlets, ranging from MSNBC, Bloomberg, and CNN, to Fox Business, Newsweek, and USA Today. Flashpoint analysis has also been featured by Krebs on Security.[10][11]

Global Threat Intelligence Report (GTIR)

[edit]

Flashpoint's annual Global Threat Intelligence Report (GTIR) compiles macro-level threat data, helping security and defense publications to gauge structural shifts in cybercrime tactics.

In 2025, Flashpoint’s report was among the first in the industry to warn about the 800% increase in info-stealing malware campaigns, showing that unauthorized identity access and credential exploitation had become the primary initial breach vectors globally.[12][13]

Flashpoint’s 2026 report was among the industry’s first to identify the operationalization of "agentic AI" frameworks within underground marketplaces. Flashpoint analysts identified a 1,500% month-over-month increase in dark web illicit discussions regarding autonomous malicious software, as threat actors move from simple generative text tools to machine-speed, end-to-end automated attack infrastructure. [14][15]
