FTMO is a Czech financial technology company based in Prague. Otakar Šuffner and Marek Vašíček founded the company in 2015.[1] Participants pay a fee to take trading evaluations on simulated accounts, with set profit targets and loss limits. Those who pass may qualify for rewards based on their subsequent simulated trading results.[2]

The business began as the Czech project Získejúčet.cz and expanded internationally in 2017.[1] FTMO ranked first in Deloitte's Technology Fast 50 Central Europe in 2021, 2022 and 2023.[3] In December 2025, it acquired online broker OANDA from CVC Capital Partners.[4]

History

[edit]

Šuffner and Vašíček developed the idea for FTMO while studying at the Prague University of Economics and Business and trading in financial markets. They launched Získejúčet.cz in 2015 to evaluate Czech traders on profitability and risk management.[1] In 2017, the business expanded abroad under the FTMO name.[1][5]

FTMO ranked first in Deloitte's Technology Fast 50 Central Europe for three consecutive years, from 2021 to 2023.[3] In February 2023, EY named Šuffner and Vašíček the winners of its technology entrepreneur award for 2022.[6]

In 2023, FTMO reported nearly CZK 5 billion (US$213 million) in revenue and about US$100 million in EBITDA. The previous year’s revenue was about CZK 4 billion.[7] Also in 2023, it acquired Quantlane, a Prague-based quantitative proprietary trading company.[8]

By July 2024, FTMO reported more than 2.3 million trading accounts, a 33 percent increase over the previous year.[7] In September 2025, the company said it employed over 300 people and had paid traders more than US$450 million since its launch.[9]

FTMO acquired OANDA from funds managed by CVC Capital Partners on 1 December 2025. Regulators in five jurisdictions had approved the sale.[4] The price, disclosed in financial statements published in 2026, was CZK 8.79 billion (about US$422 million).[10]

In 2026, FTMO’s website listed more than 4.5 million traders worldwide and over US$650 million in rewards paid since launch.[11]

Business model

[edit]

FTMO charges a fee for evaluations in which participants must meet profit targets on simulated trading accounts without exceeding the loss limits. Participants who pass may qualify for an FTMO Account. They can then earn rewards based on their simulated trading results.[12][2] FTMO may use participants’ trading data to inform trades made with real capital.[2][13]

About one in ten participants passed FTMO’s evaluation, Šuffner and Vašíček told WirtschaftsWoche in 2025. They also said the company earned more from evaluation fees than from its own trading.[2]
