Esperanza Fintech Group, styled as Esperanza (Chinese: 毅盛金融科技(香港)有限公司), is a Hong Kong-headquartered financial technology group whose licensed subsidiaries conduct gold trading, asset custody and securities-related tokenised-investment business.[5][2] According to the South China Morning Post, the group sells tokens representing fractional shares of an entertainment production's costs and expected profits, recorded on a blockchain.[6]

The group's Hong Kong holding company, Esperanza Fintech (Hong Kong) Limited, was incorporated on 9 May 2024.[1] It was founded by Dan Ronald Leung Wai-tsun, whom the South China Morning Post has identified as founder and chief executive.[2][7]

Esperanza's licensed subsidiaries hold Securities and Futures Commission Type 4 and Type 9 licences, a Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department registration as a dealer in precious metals and stones, and a trust or company service provider licence.[5] Leung is the group's founder and chief executive, and Tony Chang, whom the South China Morning Post has described as its managing partner, is a co-founder.[4][6]

History

[edit]

Esperanza Fintech (Commodities) Limited and Esperanza Fintech (Nominees) Limited were incorporated on 21 February 2025, and a separate, pre-existing company was renamed Esperanza Fintech (Securities) Limited on 20 August 2025.[8][9]

Hong Kong Stock Exchange GEM-listed Hatcher Group Limited agreed in August 2025 to market Esperanza's gold-backed instrument and security tokens to Hong Kong clients under a one-year partnership, and a Hatcher subsidiary agreed in February 2026 to act as broker, distributor, underwriter and project financial adviser for tokenised investments managed by Esperanza.[10][5]

In a September 2025 profile timed to Hong Kong's annual policy address, the South China Morning Post quoted Leung as saying that, within five months, Esperanza had obtained gold-dealer, trust-service and asset-management licences, and had raised its first funding round, US$2 million from Singaporean investors; the newspaper linked the firm to the government's 2024 policy address, which had pledged to develop Hong Kong into a gold settlement centre, and quoted Leung saying the company's goal was "to connect blockchain to traditional businesses such as entertainment".[11] The following month, the Post reported, citing a person familiar with the matter, that Esperanza was seeking endorsement from mainland Chinese authorities for its tokenised-gold products.[2]

On 13 February 2026, the Securities and Futures Commission stated it had no further comments on the tokenisation of funds managed by Esperanza, permitting the group to conduct securities tokenisation business.[5][12]

Regulation

[edit]

Esperanza Fintech (Securities) Limited is licensed by the Securities and Futures Commission, under Central Entity number BAO325, to carry out Type 4 (advising on securities) and Type 9 (asset management) regulated activities under the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap. 571).[5][13] Hatcher's announcement states that the SFC's permission "does not represent support or encouragement for the public to invest in the relevant Esperanza Tokenised Investments".[5] Finet described the Commission's approach to tokenised funds such as Esperanza's as bringing new products within existing licensing categories, restricted to professional investors, with disclosure of the underlying assets required.[12]

Esperanza Fintech (Commodities) Limited is registered with the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department as a dealer in precious metals and stones under registration number A-B-25-03-08913,[5] a registration regime introduced by amendment to the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Ordinance (Cap. 615) that took effect on 1 April 2023.[14] Esperanza Fintech (Nominees) Limited, which operates custody of client assets, is licensed as a trust or company service provider under licence number TC010260.[5]

Tokenised entertainment investments

[edit]

On 24 February 2026, Esperanza announced Ethereum-based investment tokens representing a share of the production costs and profits of Cantopop singer Chris Wong's 40th Anniversary Concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum, held in March 2026.[7][5] A set number of tokens represented 10 percent of the two shows' production costs and could be traded before the concerts, with Esperanza acting as underwriter and token-holders sharing in any profits.[7] The same HKEXnews filing named a Korean boy-band concert scheduled for 11 April 2026 in Kuala Lumpur as a further project, later identified by Hatcher as the K-Sarang Super Concert.[5][15] In March 2026, Hatcher announced it would also subscribe to a tokenised investment in a CNBLUE concert scheduled for 6 June 2026 in Bangkok,[15] which 星島環球網 (STNN) separately named among Esperanza's tokenised-entertainment projects.[16]

On 12 May 2026, Esperanza and stage-production company One Cool Stage Limited announced a tokenised-investment agreement for the play The Big Big Day, produced by Louis Koo Tin-lok and starring Chu Pak-him and Fish Liew Chi-yu, staged at the West Kowloon Cultural District from 20 July to 16 August 2026.[6][17] Leung said the share of production costs represented by tokens for the play had been raised to 15 percent.[6] In interviews published in May 2026, Leung said the company's pipeline of prospective tokenisation projects—spanning entertainment, licensed intellectual property, property and other categories—could exceed HK$2 billion.[17][16]

People

[edit]

Ronald Leung, whom Hong Kong news outlets identify by his full legal name, Dan Ronald Leung Wai-tsun, is Esperanza's founder and chief executive.[2] The South China Morning Post[11] and 香港商報[17] both describe him as a lawyer; the Post identifies him as the group's chief executive officer,[7] while 香港商報 describes him as chief executive officer and chief legal officer.[17]

Tony Chang is a co-founder of the group. A University of Hong Kong Faculty of Architecture event page identifies him as "Co-Founder, Group Deputy CEO and Chief Financial Officer of Esperanza",[4] while the South China Morning Post has referred to him as the group's "managing partner".[6]
