Comment: A lot of Indian news outlets do paid press coverage for organisations which doesn't count towards notability. In solidarity, Aydoh8[what have I done now?] 17:20, 25 September 2026 (UTC)

Engineer is the annual technical festival of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in Surathkal, Karnataka, India[1] established in 2005. It has developed into a large student-run technical festival in India attracting over 20,000 students annually from approximately 150 institutions globally.[2] The four-day-long event is held in the last week of October in the odd semester of NITK academic calendar. The festival operates under the official motto "Think Create Engineer" and uses a Penrose Triangle as its logo.It organizes competitive hackathons, professional skill-building workshops, expert guest lectures, and live technological exhibitions.[3]
History and Growth
[edit]Prior to 2005, individual engineering departments and registered student clubs at NITK Surathkal used to host independent, small-scale technical events throughout the academic year. In 2005, the student council of NITK unified these events into a single national festival named 'Engineer'. The festival subsequently expanded its events to increase the participation of students and bring new technological ideas and initiatives.[4] The first edition of the festival, in 2005, primarily organized three events : paper presentations, code marathons and foundational design problems.[4] In 2006, The festival introduced 'Shrishti', an event focused on engineering solutions for community development, alongside robotics events such as 'Automata' and 'Perfect Machine'. The 6th edition of the festival in 2011 introduced TEDxNITKSurathkal , a platform that joins speakers from technology, entrepreneurship, music with students. The fest also featured India Innovates, providing a platform for independent innovators to showcase their work.[5][6] The 10th edition, based upon the theme 'The Space Edition', introducedMars Rover model and invited Kargil War hero Brigadier O. P. Yadav, entrepreneur Rahm Shastry and NITK alumnus Deepak Shetty as guest speakers. The edition also launched 'EngiConnect', bringing together over 500 school students to showcase their innovations.[7] In 2018 the annual NITK Model United Nations (MUN) conference was formally introduced, incorporating committees based on the central theme of the festival.[8] [2] The 15th edition introduced Tech Mela 2.0, featuring student-built technologies such as a hand-gesture-controlled drone, dancing robots and a Formula One car simulator, alongside invited Major Deepak Rao and Sharad Sagar as speakers.[9] [10] The 17th edition featured the Mitra humanoid robot at its inauguration and introduced a diverse set of events including Bot Hockey, Wright Flight, Space Quiz, Antariksh, Drone Competition and Engineer Hackathon. The edition also invited personalities such as Chandresh Mahajan, Deepak Shenoy, Gaurav Sen and Aarzoo Khuranna, along with a laser show, an ITBP weapon exhibition and a Star Eve featuring comedian Jasmeet Singh Bhatia (Jassy).[11] [12]

The Proshow in 2024 featured a dome-structured stage for the first time at Engineer NITK.[13] [14] [15] In 2025, the festival hosted a Space Talk with Group Captain Angad Pratap, an IAF test pilot and astronaut designate for the 'Gaganyaan programme'. [3]
The 2026 technical festival is based upon the theme 'Cognitrixx: Rewire Reality'. The edition introduced a dedicated Startup Pitch track and expanded 'ENGI Care' with initiatives including 'Techadapt' and 'Innovate4Good', alongside new space and technology focused activities such as a 'planetarium' and telescope-making workshops.
Events
[edit]Robowars
[edit]Robowars is a robotic combat competition. The event is conducted in the 15 kg wireless category where remotely controlled robots, designed and constructed by the participating teams, deliver and withstands impacts during the match.Teams control their robots wirelessly from outside the arena.
The competition involves aspects of mechanical design, electronics, robotics and control systems. Matches test the design, durability, control and reliability of the competing robots.
Hackathons
[edit]The Engineer Hackathon held at NITK Surathkal is a 24-hour event aimed at promoting innovation by gathering some of the most talented individuals to address real-world problems. Focusing on areas such as sustainability, social good, and the use of technology for positive change, the hackathon provides a platform for creative problem solving and for engineering solutions. During the event, the participants work together, develop prototypes, and present their solutions under pressure, at the same time gaining insights from workshops led by industry professionals and experts. It is an environment in which ideas develop quickly and where purpose is combined with cutting-edge technology.
Robocon Bot Expo
[edit]Robocon Bot Expo is an exhibition featuring robots developed by the NITK Robocon Team. The exhibition showcases robotic systems developed for various tasks and demonstrates their applications in areas such as mechanical design, electronics, programming and control systems.
Astro Committee
[edit]The Astro Committee involves astronomy and space related activities. Its activities include workshops, talks, stargazing sessions and practical projects related to astronomy and space technology such as rocket model construction.
Technites Committee
[edit]Technites is a technical exhibition. It brings together projects and demonstrations from areas including computer science, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. The event showcases projects involving software, electronics, mechanical systems and their integration. The exhibition provides a platform for students to demonstrate their projects and explain the design and engineering principles behind them. It also highlights interdisciplinary work involving programming, electronic circuits and mechanical systems.
Tronix Committee
[edit]The Tronix Committee is at the centre of all electronic and technological activities at NITK Surathkal. It is a group of enthusiastic tinkerers, builders and innovators who are responsible for organising Engineer.
Tech Mela
[edit]Tech Mela is a vibrant event highlighting innovation, featuring the best projects from NITK's top tech clubs, its racing teams such as Robocon and Baja, and various departments including CSD. Covering areas such as robotics and AI as well as app development and smart systems, it provides a glimpse of the cutting-edge ideas that are helping to shape the future. The various teams will display their work at creatively arranged stalls, giving visitors a practical insight into their interests and skills. For first-year students, it offers the ideal opportunity to get acquainted with NITK's lively technical environment, meet members of the clubs, and find out where their own interests lie.
Workshops
[edit]Workshops are conducted on topics related to engineering, technology and emerging fields. They are organised by industry professionals, NITK faculty members and student clubs. Topics covered in different editions have included programming, robotics, sustainable technology, web development, machine learning and 3D printing.
The workshops generally combine lectures or demonstrations with practical activities, allowing participants to gain experience with the technologies and concepts discussed.
