Egidio Chiarella (1953–2020) was an Italian writer, journalist and calabrian politician. He served as a member of the Regional Council of Calabria from 1999 to 2010.[1]
Biography
[edit]Chiarella was born in Borgia, Italy. He graduated in literature from the University of Messina and worked as a high school teacher of Italian and history.[2] From 1999 to 2010, he served as a member of the Regional Council of Calabria. During his term, he was involved in institutional committees.[3] In parallel with his political activity, he worked as a journalist and publicist, collaborating with media outlets including Zenit.org. After his political career, he remained active in editorial and cultural fields, writing on social and religious topics.[4] At the age of 67, he died on 14 May of 2020.[5]
Career
[edit]Chiarella’s activity developed across institutional, legislative and cultural fields. During his time in the Regional Council of Calabria, he was involved in legislative processes and contributed to a number of regional measures in areas such as institutional affairs, social policies and public communication.[6] His name has been associated with several legislative initiatives, including the establishment of the Regional Communications Committee (CORECOM), as well as regional laws on urban planning, social services and transparency in public administration.[7] Alongside his institutional work, he remained active in the fields of journalism and cultural reflection, writing on social and religious issues and collaborating with various media outlets.[8] He was also engaged in initiatives related to volunteering and the third sector, contributing to the development of regional support structures for nonprofit organizations.
