Draft:EHN Canada

EHN Canada

[edit]

EHN Canada (Edgewood Health Network Inc.) is a Canadian provider of inpatient, outpatient and virtual treatment for substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Headquartered in Toronto, EHN Canada operates treatment facilities and publicly funded services in several Canadian provinces. Its programs address substance use, trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.[1]

EHN Canada was established in December 2013 through the acquisition of Edgewood Treatment Centre in Nanaimo, British Columbia. The organization later expanded through acquisitions, the development of treatment facilities, government partnerships and virtual services delivered through EHN Online.[2]

History

[edit]

Formation and national expansion

[edit]

Edgewood Treatment Centre opened in Nanaimo, British Columbia, in 1994 and later became the foundation for the development of EHN Canada.[3]

EHN Canada was created on December 24, 2013, through the acquisition of Edgewood Treatment Centre alongside investment from Alignvest Management Corporation.[2]

EHN Bellwood Toronto and EHN Nouveau Départ Montréal were subsequently added during the organization’s early expansion.[4]

During Alignvest’s investment period, EHN Canada completed three acquisitions, expanded its inpatient treatment network and launched virtual treatment services. By 2021, the organization operated six inpatient facilities across Canada.[5]

In April 2021, Alignvest announced the sale of its investment in EHN Canada. Peloton Capital Management lists EHN Canada as a current healthcare-services investment dating from 2021.[6]

Expansion and services

[edit]

EHN Canada expanded from a single treatment facility into a network of inpatient and virtual treatment services. The organization’s growth included EHN Bellwood Toronto in Ontario, EHN Nouveau Départ Montréal in Quebec and treatment facilities in Nova Scotia, alongside programs serving military members, veterans, first responders and frontline healthcare workers.[2]

As of 2026, EHN Canada states that it operates ten accredited treatment locations across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. EHN Online delivers virtual mental-health, trauma and addiction treatment services across Canada.[7]

EHN Canada provides treatment for substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Services include medically supervised detoxification, inpatient treatment, virtual intensive therapy programs, family support, aftercare, extended care and alumni programming.[8]

EHN Guardians

[edit]

EHN Guardians is EHN Canada’s division serving military members, veterans, first responders and frontline healthcare workers. Treatment is delivered through dedicated inpatient facilities addressing trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, operational stress injuries and substance use disorders.[9]

EHN Canada has partnered with Wounded Warriors Canada to provide occupational-awareness training for healthcare professionals working with trauma-exposed populations.[10]

EHN Online

[edit]

EHN Online provides structured virtual programming across Canada. Programs address substance use disorders, depression, anxiety and workplace trauma, and include group and individual therapy followed by continuing-care and aftercare services.[11][9]

EHN Canada was awarded a cooperative purchasing agreement through Sourcewell for virtual behavioural-health therapy and related services.[12]

Publicly funded services and government partnerships

[edit]

Saskatchewan

[edit]

In 2023, the Government of Saskatchewan selected EHN Canada through a competitive procurement process to provide virtual outpatient addiction-treatment services for Saskatchewan residents.[13]

The province later selected EHN Canada to operate EHN Willowview Recovery Centre near Lumsden. The facility began admitting patients in January 2025 and became fully operational with 60 inpatient treatment spaces in April 2025.[14][15]

EHN Canada also operates temporary complex-needs facilities in Regina and Saskatoon. CBC News reported that the facilities were designed to provide short-term, medically supervised care for individuals detained under provincial legislation.[16][17]

Alberta

[edit]

EHN Canada operates EHN Sandstone Recovery Centre in Calgary through a partnership involving Recovery Alberta, Silver Linings Foundation and the Government of Alberta. CBC News reported that the facility provides inpatient eating disorder treatment for young people referred by physicians or nurse practitioners and that Silver Linings Foundation raised $4 million to purchase the property.[18][9]

New Brunswick

[edit]

In December 2025, the Government of New Brunswick announced a partnership with EHN Canada to establish a 50-bed inpatient substance use treatment centre on the Kingston Peninsula. CBC News reported that the province would provide annual operating funding while EHN Canada would finance development of the facility.[19]

The proposed centre was described as providing inpatient treatment lasting four to six months and serving more than 100 people annually. At the time of reporting, it was expected to open in 2026.[19]

Employer, healthcare and community partnerships

[edit]

In 2024, Benefits and Pensions Monitor reported that EHN Canada partnered with Benefits Alliance to develop Mental Health Connect, a workplace mental-health program incorporating education for managers, mental-health screening and access to treatment services.[20]

EHN Canada is listed as a partner of East Toronto Health Partners, an Ontario Health Team serving communities in east Toronto.[21]

Research and clinical evaluation

[edit]

EHN Canada describes its use of measurement-based care across treatment facilities, with standardized assessment tools used during treatment to monitor symptoms and inform clinical decision-making.[22]

A 2024 study in Alcoholism Treatment Quarterly examined addiction-related and psychological outcomes associated with an inpatient residential addiction treatment program at EHN Edgewood Nanaimo.[23]

A 2026 study in the Journal of Clinical Psychology used interviews to examine how public safety professionals receiving inpatient care at EHN Guardians Gateway experienced treatment and recovery.[24]

EHN Canada funds the EHN Guardians Scholarship through the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research. The scholarship supports graduate research related to addiction and mental health among military personnel, veterans and public safety personnel.[25]

Accreditation

[edit]

EHN Canada and participating facilities are accredited with commendation through Accreditation Canada’s Qmentum Global program. Accreditation Canada’s public directory lists accredited EHN Canada sites individually.[26]

EHN Canada states that the accreditation process assesses organizational performance across governance, leadership, risk management, safety practices and clinical care.[27]

Public profile

[edit]

CBC News has reported on EHN Canada’s publicly funded services and partnerships in Saskatchewan, Alberta, New Brunswick and the Northwest Territories.[28][19][18][17]

Leadership and ownership

[edit]

EHN Canada is led by Joe Manget, who serves as chair and chief executive officer.[29] EHN Canada’s executive leadership team includes Tammy Sergie, Chief HR and Privacy Officer; Joe Blomeley, Chief Operating Officer; Jennifer Ogle, Chief Financial Officer; and Lawrence Ho, Chief Customer and Information Officer.[8]

Peloton Capital Management lists EHN Canada as a current portfolio investment. EHN Canada’s board page identifies Peloton managing partners Mike Murray and Steve Faraone as board members.[29]
