Diogen Babuc (Băbuț) is a Serbian computer scientist, researcher, educator, and author of Romanian descent. Babuc is affiliated with Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara (West University of Timișoara). His work spans machine learning, medical informatics, and interdisciplinary theory, mainly in English, alongside literary contributions in Serbian.[1]

Early life and education

Diogen Babuc was born in 1999 in Uzdin, Serbia.[2] Babuc graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara. He completed a master's degree in bioinformatics as valedictorian in 2023 and later pursued PhD.[3]

Academic career

Babuc has been affiliated with Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara as a teaching assistant since 2022, contributing to courses in computer science and systems-related disciplines.[4] He has participated in research collaborations and conferences in artificial intelligence and distributed systems.[5]

Research

Babuc's research focuses on machine learning in healthcare and systems optimization. One of his works explores improving cervical cancer detection using collaborative filtering techniques.[6] He has also contributed to research on:

  • Federated learning platforms for medical imaging;
  • Deep neural network architectures for disease classification;
  • Vision transformer models for diagnostic systems.[7]

Babuc gained international recognition after receiving an award at the ECML PKDD 2025 conference at the workshop for Responsible Healthcare.[8] The awarded project, titled MedFusion-LM, was recognized for its contribution to responsible healthcare AI, focusing on privacy-preserving data analysis and explainable decision-making in medical systems.[9]

He has contributed to AI-driven diagnostic systems and medical image analysis, including work published in Springer proceedings.[10] He has also authored research on ensemble learning applied to COVID-19 datasets.[11] His work includes research on hybrid task scheduling and optimization of neural network inference for skin lesions.[12]

Interdisciplinary theory

Babuc proposed The Theory of Proportions and Symbolic Allusions Applied Interdisciplinarily (TPASAI), integrating mathematical and symbolic analysis.[13]

Literary work

In addition to scientific research, Babuc is also a writer in Serbian literature. His works include:

  • Kartagina (2018);
  • Skladište (2023);
  • Osuđenici (2025).

His writing has been described as combining philosophical reflection, literary theory, and social critique.[14] The novel Osuđenici was published by the Serbian publishing house Nova Poetika.[15]
