Dinesh Singh (died 14 October 2009) was an Indian politician and former Minister of State in the Government of Uttar Pradesh. He served as a Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing the Shohratgarh Assembly constituency in Siddharthnagar district. Originally associated with the Indian National Congress (INC), he later joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) and held a ministerial portfolio in the state government.[1][2]

Political career

Singh entered state politics with the Indian National Congress. In the 2002 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, he won the Shohratgarh assembly seat on a Congress ticket.[1]

He subsequently joined the Samajwadi Party and was appointed as a Minister of State in the Uttar Pradesh Government. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in improving regional infrastructure, rural electrification, and healthcare access in the Siddharthnagar region.[2]

Death and legacy

Singh passed away on 14 October 2009.[3] His contributions are commemorated annually on his death anniversary across Siddharthnagar district.[2][3]

He is survived by two sons:

  • Dr. Jitendra Singh, a medical doctor and gastroenterologist, who established the Dinesh Singh Memorial Hospital and educational institutions in Siddharthnagar city in memory of his father.[4]
  • Ugrasen Pratap Singh, a politician who served as a local block pramukh and has contested the Shohratgarh assembly seat for the Samajwadi Party.[2]
