Diego Tompkins (born August 22, 2001) is a curler. As of 2026, he skips the Mexican men and mixed doubles teams.[1]

Early life

Tompkins was raised in Toronto, Canada, along with his brother Mateo. Both learned curling at a young age.[2] Their father, Douglas Tompkins, is a former curler, and has served as Coach for the Mexican team since 2020.[3]

Tompkins was recruited by the Mexican Curling Federation to skip the Men, Mixed, and Mixed Doubles teams at various World Curling Competitions.[4]

Tompkins, his brother Mateo, and teammates Ramy Cohen, and Ismael Abreu won silver at the America's World Curling Championship Challenge in November 2019 in Minnesota, United States. Earning the one Americas Zone slot to advance to the World Qualification Event, in January 2020 in Lohja, Finland, where they finished 8th overall.[5]

The America's World Curling Championship Challenge competitions were replaced by the Pan Continental Curling Championships. Tompkins and his teammates finished 4th at the Pan Continental Curling Championships in November 2023 in Kelowna, Canada.[6]

For the 2025-26 curling season, Tompkins formed a new team with his brother Mateo, along with Ramy Cohen and Joaquin Villanueva to compete at the last Pan Continental Curling Championships [7] in October 2025 in Minnesota, USA where they finished 6th place.[8]

The Pan Continental Curling Championships were replaced by the introduction of World Curling Championships B and C Divisions for the 2026-2027 curling season.[9] As a result, Mexico had another opportunity to earn a promotion to the World Championship Qualifier by participating in the World Championship Pre-Qualifier (Pan Continental) in Dumfries, Scotland, in April 2026.

Tompkins skipped the team at the World Championship Pre-Qualifier (Pan Continental) 2026 in Dumfries, Scotland, where they went undefeated in the round robin with a 5-0 record, ultimately winning the first gold medal for Mexico, and securing promotion to the World Championship Qualifier in November 2026.[10]

Mixed

After the COVID-19 pandemic, Tompkins skipped the first-ever Mixed Team for Mexico with teammates that included his brother Mateo, Estefana Quintero, and Monica Díez at the 2022 World Mixed Curling Championships in Aberdeen, Scotland, in October. The team gave Mexico its first victory at a world event against Luxembourg, and later versus England, placing 7th in the round robin and finishing 26th overall.[11]

Mixed-Doubles

Tompkins ventured into Mixed Doubles by forming a team with Danielle Serra [12] and competing at the 2023 Mexican Mixed Doubles Nationals in Vancouver, Canada, winning Bronze.[13]

Tompkins and Serra returned to Vancouver to compete at the 2024 Mexican Mixed Doubles Nationals winning gold and the right to represent Mexico.[14] Tompkins placed 4th in the round robin and 13th overall[15] at the World Mixed Doubles Qualification Event in Dumfries, Scotland, in December 2024.[16]

Tompkins and Serra played in the Portuguese Mixed Doubles Nationals held in Ontario, Canada in January 2025, featuring 10 teams where they won bronze.[17]

Tompkins went back to Dumfries, Scotland in January 2026 for the World Mixed Doubles Qualification Event where they finished 4th place in the round robin and 19th overall.[18]

In April 2026, Leaside Curling Club hosted the 2026 Mexican Mixed Doubles Nationals, where Tompkins successfully defended his title as the Mexican Mixed Doubles champion.[19]

Tompkins and Serra will compete in the first event of the 2026-2027 World Curling season in Colorado, United States for the World Mixed Doubles Qualification Event from 2–8 October 2026. [20]
