Dedo Weigert (* 5th November 1938 in Wrocław ; † 30th November 2025 in Munich) was a German Cinematographer, inventor and entrepreneur. He is best known for introducing a family of precision focus lighting instruments called the Dedolight, widely used in film, television, photography, museums, and architectural applications.

Life
[edit]Born in 1938 in Wrocław, Weigert was the son of Hans Weigert, a university professor of art history, and Cornelie Weigert, a painter originally from Obermeier. [1]
Dedo Weigert attended a humanistic secondary school, where he studied Latin and Ancient Greek. He later studied drama, psychology, and German literature at the University of Munich. During his studies, he supported himself through various jobs, including night-shift work in a factory and employment as a truck driver.
In 1965 Weigert established Dedo Weigert Film GmbH film production company. In 1985 he founded Dedotec Mechanical & Optronic Systems GmbH, through which he developed lighting technologies recognised for their optical efficiency and beam control. The Dedolight system, distinguished by its dual-lens optical design enabling focusable light output while maintaining efficiency and thereby introducing the concept of "Clean Beam" in the 1980s. [2]
In the 2000s Series 400 was introduced with a patented Triple Zoom Focus mechanism and patented Double Aspheric optical technology, designed to increase light output, extend the focusing range, and improve the uniformity of light intensity and color distribution.
