Data Patterns (India) Limited is an Indian defence and aerospace electronics company headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It designs, develops and manufactures electronic systems and subsystems for defence, aerospace and space applications.[1]

Its products include radar and radar subsystems, electronic-warfare equipment, avionics, communication systems, naval electronics, automatic test equipment, satellite electronics and rugged military computers.[2]

The company is listed on the National Stock Exchange of India under the symbol DATAPATTNS and on the Bombay Stock Exchange under security code 543428.[1]

History

[edit]

The company was incorporated in Bengaluru on 11 November 1998 as Indus Teqsite Private Limited.[3]

It was founded by Srinivasagopalan Rangarajan and Rekha Murthy Rangarajan, who developed the business as a supplier of electronics to the Indian defence and aerospace sectors.[1]

Following the amalgamation of its wholly owned subsidiary, Data Patterns (India) Private Limited, into Indus Teqsite, the company was renamed Data Patterns (India) Private Limited on 4 August 2021. It was converted into a public limited company and adopted its present name on 13 September 2021.[3]

Initial public offering

[edit]

Data Patterns conducted an initial public offering in December 2021. The ₹588-crore offering consisted of a fresh issue of shares worth ₹240 crore and an offer for sale of approximately 5.95 million shares by its promoters and other shareholders.[4]

The offering was open between 14 and 16 December and was subscribed approximately 119.62 times.[5]

The company's shares began trading on the NSE and BSE on 24 December 2021. The shares opened at ₹856 on the NSE, approximately 47 per cent above the issue price of ₹585, and at ₹864 on the BSE.[1]

The company stated that proceeds from the fresh issue would be used for debt repayment, working-capital requirements and the expansion and upgrading of its Chennai facilities.[4]

Operations

[edit]

Data Patterns operates as a vertically integrated electronics manufacturer, with capabilities covering hardware, software, firmware and mechanical design, prototype development, manufacturing, system integration, testing and validation.[6][1]

Its product portfolio includes:

  • radar and radar-processing systems;
  • electronic-support and electronic-countermeasure equipment;
  • avionics and cockpit displays;
  • military communication equipment;
  • naval launch and fire-control systems;
  • inertial-navigation equipment;
  • radio-frequency and microwave systems;
  • automatic test equipment;
  • commercial off-the-shelf military computing boards; and
  • satellite and ground-station electronics.[2]

The company has worked with Indian defence organisations and public-sector manufacturers, including the Defence Research and Development Organisation, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited. Its electronics have been used in programmes associated with the HAL Tejas, helicopters, the BrahMos missile and communication and electronic-intelligence systems.[1]

The company's primary design and manufacturing facility is situated at the SIPCOT Information Technology Park in Siruseri, Chennai. It also maintains offices in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram.[7]

Space systems

[edit]

Data Patterns has developed electronics for satellites, satellite ground stations and launch-pad automation. According to disclosures made during its initial public offering, it participated in the development of NIUSAT, a nanosatellite belonging to Noorul Islam University.[8]

NIUSAT was a 15-kilogram, three-axis-stabilised student satellite designed to provide multispectral imagery for agricultural monitoring and disaster-management applications. It was launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation aboard the PSLV-C38 mission in June 2017.[9]

Radar projects

[edit]

Data Patterns develops surveillance, tracking, weather and precision-approach radar systems and related radar electronics.[2]

In 2025, the company completed site-acceptance testing for transportable precision-approach radars supplied to customers in Europe. The company described the equipment as its first independently developed radar system to be exported.[10]

In March 2026, Data Patterns received a ₹279-crore contract from the India Meteorological Department for the supply of 34 Doppler weather radar units.[11]
