DataRemote, Inc. is an American telecommunications equipment company headquartered in Palmetto Bay, Florida. The company manufactures and sells cellular and IP-based devices used to replace or back up legacy analog telephone lines, including devices for POTS replacement, fax, alarm panels, elevator phones, emergency call boxes, and analog modem data.[3][1]
DataRemote's products are used by managed service providers and telecommunications carriers in POTS replacement offerings. In 2025, MetTel stated that its United States Postal Service landline modernization project combined MetTel's managed service and multi-carrier network connectivity with a DataRemote hardware unit known as "POTS IN A BOX®".[4]
History
[edit]DataRemote has described its cellular communications products as dating to 1991.[1] Florida Division of Corporations records list DataRemote, Inc. as an active foreign profit corporation filed in Florida on March 5, 2013, with a principal address in Palmetto Bay, Florida.[2]
In 2025, Refresh Miami described DataRemote as "a telecom equipment company that helps businesses convert analog signals to digital" and reported that the company had grown from approximately five employees to more than 50 over the prior decade under the operational leadership of chief operating officer Timor Brik.[5] The same article reported that DataRemote had participated in Miami Tech Works, a workforce initiative involving Miami Dade College, BrainStation, and local employers.[5]
Products and services
[edit]DataRemote's principal product line is marketed under the POTS IN A BOX® name. The devices are used to convert legacy circuit-switched analog telephone signals to IP-based communications paths using wired broadband, cellular connectivity, or multi-path failover configurations.[4][6]
Products listed by DataRemote include the 90X1, 90X2, VAB-1, CDS-9090, and CDS-9010.[7] The company also markets fixed wireless access and device-management services. Its device-management platform, Ara, is described by the company as supporting proactive monitoring, API integration, and live notifications.[7]
Public filings by Ooma, Inc. described DataRemote as one of the POTS replacement equipment manufacturers whose products are bundled by service providers competing in the POTS replacement market.[3]
Deployments and partnerships
[edit]In October 2024, Velocity MSC announced that it had added DataRemote's 90X1 5G POTS replacement device to its POTS IN A BOX® portfolio. Velocity stated that the 90X1 was intended for organizations replacing legacy POTS lines used by equipment such as elevators, security alarms, and fax machines.[1]
In May 2025, MetTel announced that it had won a United States Postal Service Supplier Excellence Award for a project to replace and upgrade aging copper landlines across 17,000 USPS locations nationwide. MetTel said the project converted circuit-switched phone signals to networked, multi-path IP and used a DataRemote hardware unit known as POTS IN A BOX® to allow USPS to maintain existing analog phones and devices while using IP-based telephony.[4]
In August 2025, MeriTalk reported that the United States Department of Veterans Affairs awarded MetTel a $54 million contract to modernize 15,000 telephone landlines across 1,875 locations. The report stated that MetTel's managed POTS Transformation solution used the DataRemote, Inc. "POTS IN A BOX®" platform and supported features such as port-level analysis, 24/7 monitoring, multi-path failover, and advanced reporting.[6]
Regulatory and industry context
[edit]The market for POTS replacement devices has developed amid the retirement of copper telephone networks and the migration of legacy voice services to IP and wireless networks. In 2026, the Federal Communications Commission stated that it had adopted rules to streamline the retirement of copper-line networks and to move communities toward newer high-speed networks, while retaining or adopting safeguards related to public safety and 911 continuity.[8]
DataRemote has announced California State Fire Marshal listings for several POTS IN A BOX® models, including 90X1, 90X2, and VAB-1.[9] A California Office of the State Fire Marshal listing page identifies application number CF25006846BML for DataRemote-related cellular router devices intended to replace traditional POTS lines.[10]
