Daniel Szymkiewicz (born 2 November 1994) is a Polish basketball player who played as a point guard and shooting guard. He represented the Poland men's national basketball team at senior level.[1]

Szymkiewicz won a silver medal with Poland at the 2010 FIBA Under-17 World Championship in Germany.[2] At the 2010 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship, he averaged 17.4 points per game as the tournament’s third-leading scorer and led the tournament in steals with 4.1 per game. In 2010, he was selected to participate in the Jordan Brand Classic International training camp in Istanbul.

At club level, he played in the Polish Basketball League, Basketball Champions League and FIBA Europe Cup. He won the Polish Basketball Cup three times and was named the PLK Most Improved Player in 2016.

Early years

Szymkiewicz began playing basketball at UKS Bryza Kolbudy in Kolbudy, Poland. In 2007, he represented the club at the Polish Primary School Championship. In 2008, he was selected to the All-Star Five of the Polish Under-14 Championship Finals.

WKK Wrocław

At the age of 14, Daniel Szymkiewicz joined WKK Wrocław. He played in the Polish 2nd Division, averaging 9.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game (EFF 10.1). During his time with WKK, he won the Polish Under-16 Championship.

He was named to the All-Star Five at Camp Kalindros in Greece and was later selected to play in the All-Star Game during the Jordan Brand Classic International training camp in Istanbul.

Szymkiewicz was a member of the Polish National Team that competed at the 2010 FIBA Under-17 World Championship in Germany. Poland won the silver medal after losing 111–80 to the United States in the final. Szymkiewicz scored five points in the game.[3]



Professional career

Trefl Sopot

In 2010, Szymkiewicz joined Trefl Sopot.[4] He made his debut in Poland's top division during the 2010–11 season and scored his first points in the league at age 16.[5]

He was part of the Trefl team that finished second in the Polish Basketball League and won the Polish Cup in the 2011–12 season.[6]

At youth level, he competed in the Polish Under-18 Championship, where he won a bronze medal and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Polpharma Starogard Gdański

In 2012, Szymkiewicz signed with Polpharma Starogard Gdański.[7] He appeared in 20 Polish Basketball League games during the 2012–13 season.


Rosa Radom

During his time with Rosa Radom, Szymkiewicz won the Polish Under-20 Championship and was named the tournament's MVP.[8][9]

At senior level, he was named PLK Most Improved Player in 2016.[10] With Rosa, he finished second in the Polish Basketball League in 2016 and won the Polish Cup in the same year.[11]

Szymkiewicz played two seasons in the Basketball Champions League and one season in the FIBA Europe Cup. Across those competitions, he averaged 8.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

Over four seasons with Rosa Radom, he played 141 Polish Basketball League games and 27 games in the Basketball Champions League and FIBA Europe Cup.

Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski

In 2018, Szymkiewicz joined Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski. In his first season, the team won the Polish Cup.[12] Stal was eliminated by Anwil Włocławek in the first round of the playoffs. In his second season,[13] Szymkiewicz averaged 10.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, with an EVAL of 13.2.



Zielona Góra

In 2020, Szymkiewicz signed with Zielona Góra, which competed in the Polish Basketball League and the VTB United League. At the start of the season, Zielona Góra won the Polish Supercup. Szymkiewicz scored 11 points and had 2 rebounds in the game. In September 2020, he suffered a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a VTB United League game against Zenit Saint Petersburg.[14]

Spójnia Stargard

After returning from the knee injury, Szymkiewicz signed with Spójnia Stargard.[15] During the 2021–22 season, he averaged 8.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game, with an EVAL of 8.1. In a game against Czarni Słupsk, he recorded 26 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists, with an EVAL of 33.

Astoria Bydgoszcz

In 2022, Szymkiewicz signed with Astoria Bydgoszcz.[16] During the 2022–23 season, he averaged 12.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, with an EFF of 13.9. He scored 20 or more points in five games and reached double figures in 13 games.[17]

Czarni Słupsk

At the start of the 2023–24 season, Szymkiewicz joined Czarni Słupsk.[18] He averaged 18 minutes, 5.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.

Start Lublin

During the 2023–24 season, Szymkiewicz transferred from Czarni Słupsk to Start Lublin.[19] He averaged 7.8 points per game and shot 60% from three-point range.[20]

Arka Gdynia

In 2024, Szymkiewicz signed with Arka Gdynia.[21][22] In the 2024–25 season, he averaged 4.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 18.0 minutes per game while shooting 40.0% from three-point range.[23]

National team career

Szymkiewicz was a member of the Poland U17 national team that won the silver medal at the 2010 FIBA Under-17 World Championship in Germany.[24] Later that year, he competed at the 2010 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship, where he led the tournament in steals with 4.1 per game and ranked third in scoring with 17.4 points per game. In 2011, Szymkiewicz represented Poland at the 2011 FIBA Under-19 World Championship.[25] Poland advanced to the quarterfinals[26] and finished seventh. He also represented Poland at the 2011 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship, where the team finished sixth. Szymkiewicz averaged 4.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. In 2014, he competed at the 2014 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship. Szymkiewicz was later called up to the senior Poland national team and took part in preparations for EuroBasket 2017.[27]
