Biography
[edit]Neoteric is a Canadian DJ, producer, and label executive (Born May 2nd, 1980 in Rodney, Ontario Canada) whose career has spanned nearly two decades of hip-hop, house, techno, and club music. He began DJing in Vancouver before moving into artist & repertoire (A&R) work, most notably with Switch's label Dubsided, which put him on the operational side of dance music early in his career. He went on to manage the Italian electro-house duo Crookers until the group's dissolution in 2012, all while continuing to produce and perform under the Neoteric name.
Described on Resident Advisor as an artist "forever on the search for the perfect beat, never constrained by genre, nor expectations," Neoteric has built a reputation for genre-agnostic sets that move fluidly between underground house, techno, and cosmic disco depending on the room. His profile has been active on RA since 2008, and he has performed most frequently in Berlin, Toronto, Los Angeles, and Miami, alongside international tour stops across Japan and Australia.
In addition to performing, Neoteric is the founder and head of Main Course, a record label and imprint that has released his own music as well as work from a roster of allied artists. His industry background — he holds a degree in Networking and Systems Administration — has informed a career built as much on label operations, A&R instincts, and artist management as on production, a mix he has described as leaning on "business, organization and networking" alongside the creative side of the job.
Neoteric also curates The White Light Mixes, a long-running mix podcast that has been recognized by WIRED Magazine as one of the best electronic DJ mix series, mentioned in the same breath as BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix (March 2014). He was featured on Diplo & Friends on BBC Radio 1 in December 2013.
